What this job is about:
The Office of the Governor has six Regional Representatives, based in Vancouver, Olympia, Seattle, Bellingham, Tri-Cities, and Spokane. Each representative is a member of the External Relations team and represent the governor and serve as primary liaison between the Governor’s Office and the region. As a representative, you are responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with various community organizations and groups, elected officials, local governments, and citizens throughout your region.
When Governor Inslee visits your region, the Northwest Washington R egional Representative will be responsible for maximizing the governor’s time and staffing the governor at events and meetings. This position reports to the Deputy Director of Policy and Outreach and works closely with other members of the governor’s staff, including communications and policy.
What you'll do:
- Staff the Governor at events and meetings around the state, including coordinating with event organizers, scheduling, policy, and communications.
- Perform advance work for Governor’s public appearances.
- Work with communities and staff to develop, leverage, and implement the Governor’s events and meetings.
- Assist with development of internal large-scale events, including town halls, summits, and statewide tours.
- Notify local community leaders concerning Governor’s visits and appearances.
- Conduct research into history, traditions, philosophy, and issues of concern for targeted groups, organizations, and communities.
- Develop and coordinate statewide events and functions and identify opportunities for gubernatorial visits.
- Oversee preparation and coordination of the Governor’s briefing book memos.
- Develop and maintain relationships with various community organizations and groups, elected officials, citizens, and targeted constituency groups.
- Communicate the Governor’s agenda to community leaders, elected officials, and organizations.
- Assist Boards and Commissions staff in gathering input on potential appointees.
- Maintain accomplishments briefing papers by county.
- Responsible for annual event planning of Governor’s State of the State Address.
Required Qualifications:
- Five years of outreach or similar experience.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Ability to manage and motivate constituencies and coalitions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage large quantities of data quickly and accurately.
- Outstanding verbal, written, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to work creatively under impactful deadlines in both a team environment and independently.
- Ability to manage sensitive situations with good judgement.
Note: If you have an approved exemption with your current agency, you will still be expected to go through the exemption process with OFM by submitting your request through the OFM HR office for appropriate processing and approval.
