Primary Responsibilities

As an employee-owner in this Rail Construction Inspector Coordinator role, we’ll count on you to:

  • Manage of all field aspects of the delivery of rail construction projects with clients, designer, and construction management teams.
  • Serve as the internal support and client point of contact for assigned rail construction projects.
  • Review and verify rail construction plans, specifications, schedule, and estimate packages.
  • Extended travel to project locations for on-going and upcoming projects.
  • Support the construction management services to grow and develop construction management teams.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the development and execution of construction activities for major company programs.
  • Participate in the development of marketing, contractual, and production documents and meetings, including project scope, budget, and schedule, as well as the development of cost estimates based on design criteria, project guides, and project controls.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate with technical, clerical, and subconsultant professionals on multi-disciplinary teams to manage and/or coordinate workloads throughout the entire project
  • Track financial aspects of projects, coordinate and adjust work effort with team.
  • Monitor Contractor Quality Documents (QC test reports, contractor Quality Management Plan (QMP), material certifications, testing equipment calibrations, material supplier information, etc.).
  • Track submittals and requests for information (RFI) including tracking of submission dates, version control, response dates and comment tracking.
  • Monitor storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP) compliance.
  • Understand and monitor for compliance with FRA 49 CFR 214 - Roadway Worker rules, FRA 49 CFR 219 – Control of Alcohol and Drug Use rules, and eRailSafe.
  • Generate a Daily and Weekly Work Reports including documentation of the contractor and subcontractor activities.
  • Participate in client and stakeholder visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspections.
  • Apply industry experience to strengthen the team to deliver excellent technical work.
  • Work across industries with rail, industrial, terminal, utility, agency, DOT, port, transit, and other industry clients.
  • Position will include some night, holiday, and weekend work, and qualified candidates must be willing to work as needed on these occasions
  • Support other groups in civil related construction projects or other field services related to the railroad industry as needed.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in construction inspection; this must include 1 year of inspection in railroad construction inspection
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently, handling multiple assignments and as part of a team
  • This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in an engineering or construction related field or have equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated and established career in construction management for railroad projects.
  • Experience working in the rail industry with public projects.
  • Experience implementing Best Management Practices for erosion, sediment, or stormwater pollution control devices
  • Experience completing and submitting Daily Work Reports using various platforms
  • Knowledge of material testing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inspecting installation of construction features, measuring dimensions, and calculating quantities.
  • Experience reviewing plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC oversight)
  • Knowledge of how to prepare documents and maintain file management of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures
  • Experience with technical writing, communicating, and presenting to clients.
  • Highly motivated to interact with clients, public, and teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment with various teams.
  • FRA 49 CFR 214 – Railroad Worker and eRailSafe trained/certified or ability to be certified within one month.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Knowledge of, and prior working experience, with railroad/transit planning, inspection, construction management, railroad alignment, special trackwork, grading, culvert, bridges, grade crossing, and grade separation projects.
  • SWPPP SWP Certificate (QSD preferred) or ability to obtain this within two months of hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able inspect any work on site without any physical assistance (such as ladders, man-lifts, underground structures, traverse uneven and irregular surfaces) except that which would normally be provided by the contractor’s personnel.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email.
  • Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
  • Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations, scale distances from plans, and measure distances on the ground and for vertical structures.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Be able to operate a vehicle day or night
  • Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts
  • Travel required
