Nursing Supervisors function as either the Health Services Manager or Assistant Health Services Manager of a Health Services Unit or Infirmary.

Position Summary


The Nursing Supervisor (a.k.a. Assistant Health Services Manager or Health Services Manager) is a registered nurse who has a high degree of expertise in the nursing care and medical management of both surgical and medical patients. This includes providing direct and indirect care to patients in both ambulatory and infirmary settings. The Nursing Supervisor functions as the administrative supervisor Health Services Unit (HSU). While the primary care physician and dentist are responsible for the professional management of medical and dental services, it is the Nursing Supervisor who provides the overall administrative oversight and direction of the unit. In addition, this position plans and participates in learning opportunities for nursing and ancillary staff; works with administration and other practitioners to assure quality patient care; promotes education; and assumes a major responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical programs in order to advance patient care and nursing practice.

Salary Information


Salary for Health Services Managers is between $117,187 and $121,305 annually; salary for Assistant Health Services Managers is between $110,156 and $121,305 annually; depending on qualifications. This position is pay schedule/range 50-11 and includes a comprehensive State of Wisconsin benefits package. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensations Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

All state employees must report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.

Qualifications


Special Requirement: Applicants must possess an unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or a reciprocating state.

Qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Managing, leading and/or overseeing the work of other nursing staff (e.g. training, assigning duties, reviewing work, etc.)
  • Monitoring and/or evaluating nursing practice for compliance with regulations and standards of care
  • Providing collaborative patient care as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team
