This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) KBVR-TV Rotating Talk Show Producer for the OMN department at Oregon State University (OSU).

The KBVR-TV Rotating Talk Show Producer is responsible for coordinating and producing occasional live TV broadcasts for KBVR-TV. This includes live TV shows broadcast on channel 26 and online, and the uploading of full episodes and online-exclusive content to KBVR’s online platforms, including YouTube.

The producer ensures student staff, crew members, and volunteers are held to the highest ethical and professional standards and practices. The producer assigns crew positions and responsibilities, oversees their crew, and delegates when appropriate. The producer builds others up through mentoring, coaching and supporting, while also managing and directing work.

The producer follows OMN policies and procedures to recruit, lead and supervise student staff and volunteers while advancing Orange Media Network’s reputation for excellence as a welcoming, engaging and inclusive organization.
Pay Rate: Student Unit Pay
Onboarding: Five hours per week, $75 total during onboarding
Full Start: One episode per term at $150 per episode
NOTE : All positions and hours remain contingent on funding availability for the 2022-2023 academic year
Position Duties
KBVR -TV Rotating Talk Show Producer Responsibilities
  • Produce their scheduled episode of a talk show
  • Every episode must include an interview
    • Examples could be sit-down interview show, late-night talk show, panel discussion, comedic “daily show” style, etc.
  • Check in with Station Manager regularly in the leadup to the shoot to review progress, content, rundown, and other assistance. This position is intended to help newer producers learn the basics of producing a show, so frequent check-ins are a must
  • Episodes must be exactly 30 minutes (includes content and breaks)
  • Ensure all shows are properly staffed with dedicated crew members (director, TD, cameras, audio, etc.)
  • Work to ensure all crew members are given opportunities to grow, learn and try new things. A producer creates the vision for the show, but it must be executed by a crew. A successful producer will not take on responsibilities that should be done by crew (hosting, directing, etc.)
  • Build a detailed rundown for each episode, and share rundown with the crew, and share with station manager at scheduled meetings
  • When live show is completed, optimize show for YouTube and upload to KBVR-TV YouTube page within 24 hours and properly label it with appropriate title, description, tags, and cover image
  • Responsible for ensuring all videos (both broadcast and online) have complete and accurate captioning. Provide full scripts, transcripts and prep material to station manager no later than 24 hours before airtime to ensure live captioners can review and ensure accuracy
  • Ensure all content on KBVR-TV (channel 26, online, and social media) is accurate, fair, engaging, and of high technical and ethical quality prior to broadcast or upload
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the KBVR-TV crew and establish procedures that encourage learning, student participation, accountability and media excellence
  • Grow audience engagement
  • Work to ensure that OMN program content is current, relevant, and consistent with OMN’s mission, vision, and policies
  • Ensure that you complete all OMN surveys and meet all deadlines
  • Act in a professional manner at all times and create and maintain collegial working relationships with fellow student leaders, organization members, sources, stakeholders, partners, collaborators and the community
  • Other duties as assigned by the adviser

Communication
  • Respond to emails, messages, team chats and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
  • Notify adviser immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur

  • Be good stewards of OMN resources by ensuring that OMN equipment is only used for OMN work
  • Alert professional staff immediately on issues with equipment

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Familiar with live studio production
  • Familiar with how to create video content and interested in learning to create content for all media platforms
  • Must take required training on Ross Inception rundown creation system
  • Must take required training on Intro to Journalism
  • Is a strong communicator and comfortable with public speaking
  • Is organized and reliable
  • Is comfortable giving and receiving feedback
  • Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situations
  • Is adaptable to a changing environment. Due to ongoing COVID-19 response needs, some responsibilities in this position description may need to be adjusted to comply with evolving health and safety expectations that are unknown at the time of this posting. Examples may include: studio and other facility use, social distancing requirements, and the need to conduct work remotely or on-site.

  • Has previously been a crew member of KBVR-TV
  • Prior attendance and participation in OMN training Camp
  • Must be currently enrolled at Oregon State University for at least six academic credits
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Must remain in a good academic standing from the term prior to selection and during the entire period of employment
