Opportunity at a Glance:

Chamberlain University College of Nursing is seeking Online Faculty (part-time) to teach in our Master of Science - Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) Specialty Track. We build long-term relationships with superior nurse educators who are experts in their field and committed to providing the finest in practitioner-focused education.


We are presently accepting applications from qualified candidates with interest in teaching a variety of courses for the September 2022 session which beings August 29th.


The courses available for instruction may include:

NR-568: Advanced Pharmacology for the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

In this course the student builds expanded knowledge of pharmacology in acute and chronic diseases in adolescents, adults and older adults while applying foundational principles from previous courses. Specific issues in the pharmacologic management of acute and chronic health conditions will be addressed including the effects of culture, ethnicity, age, gender and funding on pharmacologic management. Polypharmacy, legal and ethical aspects of prescribing will be also addressed.

NR-576: Differential Diagnosis in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Practicum

In this course the student will master content regarding formulating differential diagnoses of individuals within the primary care setting, along with an introduction to critical reasoning and diagnostic skills to cultivate evidence-based behaviors. An emphasis will be placed on processing patient information in a logical, progressive manner and formulating differential diagnoses for adolescents, adults, older adults and women in a practicum experience in a precepted primary care setting.

NR-577: Primary Care Management of Adolescents & Adults

In this course the student will gain knowledge needed to manage the multidimensional care of adolescents, adults, women and at-risk and marginalized populations specific to the role of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) with a focus on common acute and chronic diseases. The student will explore, analyze, apply and evaluate acute and chronic health conditions frequently encountered in primary care of adolescents, adults and women. Students will further develop their skills related to patient education, protocol development, follow-up and referral through a practicum experience in a precepted primary care setting.

NR-578: Primary Care Management of Older Adults

In this course the student will gain knowledge needed to manage multidimensional care of older adults specific to the role of the AGPCNP with a focus on common acute and chronic diseases. The student will explore, analyze, apply and evaluate acute and chronic health conditions frequently encountered in primary care of older adults. Students will further develop their skills related to patient education, protocol development and referral through a practicum experience in a precepted primary and long-term settings.

NR-579: Palliative Care in Adult-Gerontology Across the Spectrum

In this course the student will apply an evidence-based approach to provide in-depth examination of palliative care principles specific to the role of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) with a focus on palliative care. The student will explore, analyze, apply and evaluate serious, life-limiting, incurable health conditions frequently encountered adolescents, adults and older adults at any stage of illness or development. Students will examine the obstacles and opportunities to provide palliative care from a practice and policy perspective within current and emerging models of care. Students, in collaboration with other disciplines, integrate physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of care for the patient, family and communities through a practicum experience in a precepted hospice, palliative care or rehabilitation setting.

NR-580: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Capstone & Intensive

The student will synthesize all elements of management skills and knowledge and continue to independently analyze, apply and evaluate diverse aspects of patient assessment and healthcare intervention. This precepted practicum will be with an approved provider in an adult-gerontology primary care practice setting. Focus topics include independent practicum management skills, unfolding case studies, chart reviews and practice critiques. At the end of the capstone practicum the student will be prepared for entry into practice providing advanced healthcare to adolescents, adult and older adults after first passing the primary care adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner national certification exam. An on-ground intensive review session occurs during the course

Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:


  • Inspire students to complete their programs by providing regular, meaningful feedback about their academic performance, development and participation while encouraging them to engage fully in their education.
  • Engage students in meaningful asynchronous threaded discussions at least 4 days per week, moderating participation, evaluating responses and rationales, and responding to questions or comments.
  • Evaluate academic progress and comprehension of course content through assigning and grading quizzes, exams and writing assignments.
  • Exhibit Chamberlain Care™ by displaying behaviors of care, respect and professionalism, creating a culture that fosters collaboration, cooperation and respect among all.
  • Be readily available to meet the needs of a student body that is diverse in age, culture and academic preparation.
  • Identify and embrace opportunities to enhance student engagement by reaching out to students in need and responding quickly to requests for help.
  • Bring your professional experience to life through professional development, introducing industry perspective into courses and sharing information about nursing trends and opportunities with students.
  • Promote student success by demonstrating flexibility in style, schedule, and exhibiting your passion for teaching by devoting time and energy to improve scholarly excellence and subject matter expertise.
  • Foster a positive learning environment by maintaining accurate records, submitting grades on time, and enforcing academic policies.
  • Use appropriate technological options for online technologies and course-related software, including Websites, e-mail, and online discussions for preparing the course and making it accessible to students.
  • Model effective oral and written communications that engage the students, provide clarity, and improve student learning.
  • Set clear expectations for the course by publishing course terminal objectives, assignment/examinations dates, and weight the distribution of various evaluation categories.
  • Ensure that the content and level of material included on exams correspond to the course terminal objectives.
  • Be available via email or telephone to provide support to the student.
  • Introduce problem based learning presentations in which students are introduced to basic health assessment methods and tools.
  • Engage up to 20 students in asynchronous threaded discussions and facilitating the discussions by asking questions, asking for rationale, and encouraging students to employ critical thinking skills as they encounter increasingly complex issues.
  • Evaluate student progress in the effective use of critical thinking skills and the application of proficiencies developed in the program through practice exams.
  • Communicate with students at least four times weekly throughout the 8-week course and respond to any student inquiries in a timely manner.
Qualifications:

You are encouraged to explore this opportunity if you meet these requirements:

  • MSN and DNP or PhD in nursing degree are required
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience is required; preferably at the graduate level
  • Online teaching experience highly preferred
  • Must have an active unencumbered RN nursing license; compact licensure preferred
  • Must have an active unencumbered APRN nursing license in one or more of following states: AL, ID, MA, MI, NE, NV, OK, OR, SD, TN
  • FNP, ANP or AGPCNP certification required
  • Must have subject matter expertise in the course of instruction
  • Faculty must have excellent communication, motivational, and instructional skills in a diverse and non-traditional environment
