Responsibilities
Job Summary:
Monitors and controls generation of a continuous supply of steam energy necessary for heating and air-conditioning of hospital buildings and for supplying power to machinery and auxiliary equipment. Performs minor or major repairs when necessary on power plant equipment. Monitors and responds to all trouble calls in all hospital buildings. Assures compliance with regulations imposed by local, state, or hospital authorities.
Incumbents are also accountable for enhancing skills and understanding of equipment and controls in continuing departmental training and orientation program for the repair and maintenance of all equipment.
Essential Duties:
Performs preventive maintenance (oils motors, changes belts and filters, paints and cleans) on boilers and related equipment such as ventilating and refrigeration equipment, air conditioning machinery, generators, suction fans, pumps, and compressors.
Monitors, maintains and makes minor repairs to mechanical devices (pumps, fans, motors, compressors, gear boxes, etc.) in operation.
Maintains a logbook detailing the operation of boilers and/or pumping equipment and documents maintenance work performed.
Alerts personnel regarding safety and hazards to ensure safe procedures and equipment.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Two years of vocational/technical training (including courses in mechanics, electricity, and electronics), and a minimum of five years of recent related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities, preferably in hospital, commercial, or industrial setting.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
License/Certification:
City of Tacoma Class II Operating Engineers License is required; Class I License is preferred.
