SUMMARY:
To represent the ASYMCA personally, professionally, and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the ASYMCA. This position requires a responsible individual to be a positive role model in a child’s life (ages 4-12 years) in a variety of activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times and adhering to the ASYMCA goals and objectives. Must have experience working with children, a warm, friendly, and energetic personality, sensitivity to the feelings and needs of others, and willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with program needs. Under the direction of the Senior Program Curriculum Specialist, the ASYMCA Operation Hero Mentor is responsible for the supervision and implementation of the Operation Hero program for a group of 5-25 school age children.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to assigned participants;
- Maintain an open, friendly, professional relationship with staff, parents, volunteers and participants; treat everyone with dignity and respect and allow for individual difference.
- Review and be familiar with weekly lesson plans prior to implementation.
- Supervise children to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and manage transitions.
- Work with youth to produce coping skills.
- Complete all incident/behavioral reports within 24 hours of the occurrence.
- Abide by established ASYMCA policies procedure, regulations and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as required by your Sr. Program Curriculum Specialist.
- May be required to work hours outside normal work schedule for training and associate events, as needed. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keep safety of children as a first priority.
- Use positive methods of child guidance.
- Responsible for supervising, and being a good role model, for children enrolled in the program.
- Be a positive role model for Elementary children ages (5-12) years old.
- Mentors serve snack, lead organize games, and communicate daily reports to parents or guardian, if needed.
- Must have the capability to notice the emotional, intellectual and physical talents of each child.
- Remain flexible for specific job and general ASYMCA training and mandatory staff meetings.
Mandatory Trainings:
First Aid/CPR Certification, State Police Criminal Record Check, F.B.I. Fingerprint Screening
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 · Able to lift up to 40 lbs. · Able to stand and move while working. · Able to react quickly and appropriately of the unpredictable actions of children. · Able to reach, bend, and kneel, clean any equipment (after use) as assigned any Supervisor. · Able and willing to help clean sick children and comfort then during their sickness (illness).
Work Environment: ·
The work environment is generally set in a school location, outside activities are required as weather permits. Noise level is moderate to extreme daily.
Travel: Travel time is not required for this position.
Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Previous experience working with children ages 5-12 years old.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
- Experience working with children and trauma
- Must possess experience in social services or teaching field.
- Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, written or oral, and be a team/mission-oriented player.
- Must have Child/Adult CPR and First Aid within 3 months of employment.
- Following ASYMCA program procedures, guidelines, policies and objectives;
- Demonstrate enthusiasm in all areas of work with children, staff and parents;
- Maintain a professional attitude with parents, staff and children;
- Demonstrate and implement the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
