Job description

The company:

Knafs is a goofy little company that makes interesting pocket knife schtuff. We're family owned and operated, and we’re launching this wild rocket to glory. We’re a small operation, and everyone does a little bit of everything. There's a healthy dose of "let's figure this thing out together" in our business that requires problem solving and cerebral engagement. We sell our products on Knafs.com, Amazon, and to 25 dealers across the world.

The job:

We need someone who dreams in weights, dims, and workflows. Their nightmares are full of incorrect inventory counts. This person must obsess over shipping rates and know the UPS driver’s name, birthday, and favorite candy bar. Tidy warehouse racking must give goosebumps. Lean processes make you smile, and fast fulfillment times invoke warm fuzzies. Apply via the link at the bottom of this description.

Responsibilities:

  • Warehouse: manage our racking, shelving, inventory, product locations, pick paths, and the location of that box cutter we always seem to misplace.
  • People: manage 3-4 Operations Specialists and their daily assignments. This includes scheduling, prioritizing projects, and tracking performance.
  • Shipping: manage pick, pack, and ship process. This includes determining package sizes, ordering packing material, and managing our fulfillment end to end.
  • Receiving: manage all incoming shipments and coordinate hard counts to ensure incoming order accuracy.
  • Replenish: organize inventory in the right warehouse location and in our warehouse management system.
  • Assembly: manage workflows for all incoming products that require assembly and kitting. This includes managing barcodes and creating internal systems to measure and manage Assembly efficiency.
  • Quality Control: manage all aspects of the Quality Control process, including creating and tracking workflows.
  • Warranty: manage all incoming warranty claims to make it right for our customers.
  • Customization: manage laser engraving system and workflow.
  • Ordering: forecasting and reordering abilities are a plus.

Essential Skillz:

  • Warehouse experience: must have warehouse management experience and straight up love this stuff.
  • Communication: must be able to speak well, write well, and manage an email inbox.
  • Counting: we need solid math skillz. We do a TON of hard counting products, and few things are worse than inventory errors.
  • Computers: we manage and ship our orders via Shopify. We use Google Sheets and Excel extensively. We’ll start new programs and systems soon. You must be computer savvy, and your mind must have the stick-to-it-ness to create solutions from challenging problems.
  • Self-management: we don’t do that hovering management stuff. Ain’t nobody got time for that. We expect our people to use their time wisely to make magic happen.
  • Problem Solving: most of our messes don’t come with an instruction manual. You must be able to look critically at the mess and decide if you use a paper towel, mop, or plumber to clean it up. We haven’t had to call a plumber yet.
  • Education: years work experience. 2 year college degree required. 4 year degree in Operations Management or Business preferred. Degrees from the school of hard knocks are also perfectly acceptable, provided the skills and work experience are there.
  • Able to work in a warehouse environment. Able to stand and sit for long periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice-to-have skillz:

  • Interest in pocket knives and the mechanics of the tool
  • Solid Spotify playlists
  • Tasty food truck recommendations

Notes

  • We exhibit at industry trade shows, so there will likely be an occasional travel expectation– 2-3 times yearly.
  • We don’t offer benefits… yet. It’s on our list of goals as a business, but we’re not quite there yet.

Perks

  • Employee discounts on everything we make.
  • Education: we believe in teaching and learning. Sure, we need a job done. But we love to help our people understand the end-to-end process and how they fit into what we’re doing here.
  • Growth: Knafs is on a wild growth pattern right now. We’re seeing cool things happen, and we need people who are willing to grow with us. We can’t promise you the moon, but that’s where we’re headed.

Pay: $50-55K salary, depending on experience.
