Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is looking for an Ophthalmic Technician to perform technical and clerical procedures to assist the Optometrist and Ophthalmologist with patient care in a friendly, caring and professional manner. In this role all our focus is on helping our patients and there are absolutely no sales or commissions involved in this position.
Responsibilities
- Answers phones and greets patients in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Schedules follow up appointments and ophthalmologist procedures. Contacts pharmacy to call in prescriptions.
- Assists patients with frame and lenses selection.
- Fills out lab order forms and verifies lab orders and prescriptions
- Obtains base curve measurement of spectacle lenses.
- Close patient’s encounters, provide health education that is specific to vision and ocular health.
- Completes all visual field testing (FDT) and performs Pachymetry, fundus and anterior segment photography, Topography, O.C.T. and any other test requested.
- Performs eye drop instillation as required.
- Responsible for maintaining and preparing Vision Clinic and equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience as ophthalmic assistant required
- Graduation from a course for Optometric Technician or completion of internal training and competencies required
- High school diploma or GED Equivalent
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS),
- Basic computer literacy

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
