Reporting to the Chair of Biological Sciences or Designee, and also receiving work direction from the Microbiology Instructional Support Technician Lead, this technician works with little to no supervision to achieve specific outcomes. The primary purpose of the Organismal Biology Instructional Support Technician III is to ensure that all resources needed for class instruction are provided appropriately and on time. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, integral involvement in ongoing course development and planning, acquisition of needed materials, preparation of instructional specimens, physical set-up of teaching labs, and subsequent class success evaluations. This technician is also responsible for the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of departmental equipment, including audio-visual equipment and the LCD projector checkout system. Routine duties include purchasing materials, lab clean-up, routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment, curation of museum and teaching collections, repair/replacement of biological models and equipment, organization of teaching areas, inventory and maintenance of specialized materials, and keeping detailed records of specimens and materials on hand. This technician is responsible for the Organismal Biology Service Center which provides live invertebrate animal specimens for class support and research across many curriculum disciplines within the biology department, including general biology, entomology, zoology, and botany. Animal care needs may require working after hours as needed.
