The Raíz Team at PPGWNI is on the lookout for a dedicated and outgoing Organizer with strong connections to the Latinx community in the Yakima area! This is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week) Monday through Friday, that requires some flexibility as some events take place on Saturdays. Travel is required 50% of the time in this role.

The Raíz (Spanish for root) Program is a unique program implemented by Planned Parenthood that works to build long-term, sustainable, community organizing structures in authentic partnership with the Latinx Community.

As a Raíz Organizer, you will support the Public Affairs Team’s objective to protect and advance health and human rights on a local, state, and national level through advocacy by building, fostering, and mobilizing our base of volunteers, and by ensuring that the needs and priorities of our Latinx and immigrant communities are embedded throughout PPGWNI’s advocacy strategy and approach.

What does this role do?

Under the supervision of the Director of Public Affairs and Raíz and in collaboration with the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) Raíz Office:

  • Collaborate and advocate with local organizing partners.
  • Develop, guide, and coordinate grassroots mobilization efforts, including voter education, engagement, and mobilization efforts in support of both state and federal legislative issues.
  • Lead canvasses, phone banks, community events, and other tasks as needed.
  • Craft and implement campaign plans.
  • Assist the VP of Public affairs and Director of Public Affairs and Raíz with grant applications that support the program.
  • Organize or participate in at least four (4) events per month.

Job Highlights

  • This position is hourly. The annual pay is 40-52K, depending on experience.
  • Can be located in Yakima area and is flexible with remote work.
  • Requires travel 50% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bilingual/fluent in English/Spanish
  • Deep experience living or working in Latinx or immigrant communities in the U.S.
  • At least 1-2 years as a volunteer or staff member doing field organizing.
  • Schedule flexibility, as work requires some nights and weekends
  • Exceptional organization and detail management skills and the ability to build and maintain organizational systems.
  • Knowledge of reproductive health and relevant social justice and human rights issues.
  • Ability to use personal stories to explain why you organize.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to adjust content based on audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize and create innovative solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.

  • Connections to local Latinx community and Organizations
  • Experience in healthcare or non-profit setting.
  • Volunteer management.
