Essential Functions:

1. To take part in all training or in-service activities to develop proficiency required to perform job responsibilities.

2. Be proficient in teaching the program curriculum and concepts.

3. Promote positive interactions within the groups.

4. Provide an outdoor education experience for special population participants.

5. Maintain a good working relationship with other staff and interns.

6. Demonstrate professional competencies:

a. Must wear staff uniform when working with a group.

b. Show interest and understanding for other staff members and participants.

c. Show a sense of humor.

d. Be aware of other's feelings.

e. Confront conflict constructively.

f. Keep a positive attitude.

g. Provide for individual needs of participants.

7. Provide a safe experience for all participants.

8. Never leave participants unattended.

9. Assist in the development of new and experimental programs.

10. Cooperate on maintaining the grounds and seeing that facility equipment is used properly and returned promptly in good condition.

11. Be sure that participants wear proper attire suitable for the existing weather.

12. Maintain a good working relationship with the administrative and maintenance staff.

13. Be punctual.

14. Be attentive to the instructional schedule.

15. Assist in meal procedures.

16. Assist in the development of written program materials that will help guests to enjoy their stay and enhance their experience at YMCA Camp Y-Noah.

17. Interpret and promote all aspects and programs of YMCA Camp Y-Noah.

18. All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have experience in a field related to working with people.
  • Must be able to self-regulate emotion/ self-manage emotion in community based, fast paced, and time sensitive situations
  • Relationship Skills: friendly, outgoing, creative, flexible, team player.
  • Communication Skills: efficient verbal and written skills, polite telephone etiquette, listening skills.
  • Member Service Skills: problem solver, ability to effectively relate to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Certifications: CPR/AED, First Aid within 90 days of hire.

Physical Demands:

§ This is an active position; employees will need to be able to walk for long periods of the day.

§ Some heavy lifting is required, employees should be able to lift 25 - 50 pounds

§ For those working the ropes courses, they need to be able to work over 20 feet off the ground.

Position Summary:

To assist in all facets of programming services for YMCA Camp Y-Noah including program delivery, program development/planning, conference coordination/liaison, and assisting in the general administration of the Program Department. The position includes work as an instructor, being a public relations ambassador with guests and groups, and assisting in maintenance of the instructional areas and equipment.
