POSITION TITLE: Outreach and Events Coordinator
POSITION TYPE: Full-time (40 hours); non-exempt
PAY RANGE: $27 - $31 hourly
REPORTS TO: Outreach Manager
HOURS:

  • Hours: 9 am - 5 pm, with some evenings and weekends
  • Days: Monday to Friday; some weekends; flexibility is required
  • Hybrid remote work flexibility

ABOUT THE MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF SAN FRANCISCO (MHASF)

MHASF is a mental health peer-run nonprofit located in downtown San Francisco and has been serving people and agencies across the Bay Area since 1947. As mental health consumers, we center the lived expertise of people with mental health challenges in our advocacy, education, and support programs. OVERVIEW OF POSITION

The Outreach Coordinator supports the Mental Health Association of San Francisco’s (MHASF) mission, vision, and work through performing community engagement, marketing and content development, and stakeholder engagement on behalf of individual programs and projects and in the promotion of agency-wide initiatives. In collaboration with the Outreach Manager and President/CEO, the Outreach and Events Coordinator will identify opportunities for outreach to underserved and marginalized communities in San Francisco, as well as other communities to which MHASF programming is especially relevant, and will develop strategies for and perform planned outreach and engagement within these communities.

The primary objective of the Outreach Coordinator is to facilitate the participation of stakeholders and participants in services, programs, volunteer opportunities, events, and training offered by MHASF, increase overall rates and diversity of participation, and expand MHASF’s contact reach. The Outreach Coordinator will also operate to increase MHASF participation in advocacy & policy activities locally and establish MHASF’s ongoing presence at and involvement in recurring advocacy and community engagement events. Finally, the Outreach Coordinator will improve MHASF marketing & outreach efficiencies and retention of information through coordinating and tracking marketing, outreach, and community engagement activities and setting benchmarks for planning.

TOP 3 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct community outreach and engagement activities that promote and recruit participants for MHASF, MHASF programs, services, and initiatives at meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Develop marketing and content materials for community engagement with MHASF Programs, the Training Institute, and the Innovation project to increase engagement of consumers, delivery of training, and implementation of innovative projects.
  • Assist in researching, creating, and implementing equitable policies in local/state legislative and budgetary processes, including supporting health equity initiatives within San Francisco County.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead or support MHASF-specific conferences, advocacy, and engagement efforts, including but not limited to Redefining Crazy, RealTalk, Sunday Streets, ARise.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate informational presentations, groups, and educational training for staff, consumers, community organizations, businesses, government, and other audiences.
  • Coordinate and attend meetings and events with community partners to gauge interest and provide information about mental health recovery, peer support, and MHASF programming.
  • Ensure up-to-date agency and program marketing and promotional collateral is distributed appropriately during outreach activities.
  • Utilize MHASF contact lists to promote programs, services, and other opportunities to relevant audiences while also entering new and updated contact information into lists and databases.
  • Maintain awareness of local and other relevant events to identify outreach opportunities.
  • Maintain an accessible log of outreach activities conducted and contacts made.
  • Develop and routinely update an annual marketing & outreach calendar of scheduled activities.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure appropriate staffing for all planned outreach activities.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations for effective outreach and engagement methods.
  • Proactively partner with program staff to maintain up-to-date knowledge of program activities, services, and outreach needs, including developing processes for updating information.
  • Maintain familiarity with local policy and advocacy issues relevant to MHASF and ensure MHASF's presence at relevant mental health advocacy opportunities.
  • Coordinate advocacy events, either independently or in coalition with community partners.
  • Assist in recruitment, training, and retention of advocacy program participants.
  • Assist in developing annual reports, grant applications, and other external communications.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Commitment to upholding the mission and values of MHASF.
  • Familiarity with the recovery movement, peer support model, and Bay Area resources.
  • BA/BS degree, preferably in the social sciences, public health, social welfare, epistemology, or four or more years of professional experience that corresponds with the responsibilities for this position as noted above.
  • Experience with community engagement strategies, health disparities, cultural and linguistic competency, and culturally responsive research and dissemination strategies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to organize and present complex information clearly, accurately, and concisely.
  • Professional-level computer skills and experience working with modern online collaborative tools such as Office 365, SharePoint, Slack, Asana, and/or other web-based applications.
  • Ability to explain step–by–step processes, create user documentation, and help others learn.
  • Demonstrated ability to move projects forward, organize information, and support staff for successful and timely completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate work involving various tasks, projects, and teams.
  • Take the initiative and work independently and collaboratively in following through on assignments.
  • To gather and/or prepare background materials; to work and deal effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Work under the pressure of deadlines and competing demands; acquire and maintain knowledge of and appropriately apply various policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience with maintaining high confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance.
  • Experience with Paycom and other HR Management software is a plus.
