Outreach/Volunteer Services Coordinator

SCHEDULE: (Determined on a case by case basis) 40 hrs/wk and on-call hours

$30,000/year

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Coordinate and develop outreach and responses to specialized and underserved populations. Provide support, advocacy, referrals and case management to survivors in the community using a trauma informed perspective.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinate, develop and execute outreach and marketing plans and material to reach underserved, specialized populations in Portage County.

2. Create culturally relevant and specialized presentations of Safer Futures’ services and domestic violence education.

3. Identify, develop and maintain partnerships with community agencies who would benefit from collaboration and cross referrals to increase client base within specialized, underserved populations. Key collaboration organizations include Kent State University, Hiram College and other community organizations serving underserved populations. Identified populations to provide outreach services to are Appalachian residents in remote areas of Portage County, LGBTQ populations, and International/Immigrant populations in need of services.

4. Provide on-going cultural competency training to Safer Futures staff and partner agencies. Assist with development of program policies, procedures and practices that improve Safer Futures’ ability to better serve specialized populations.

5. Provide case management services with survivors of specialized populations as appropriate. Provide system advocacy for undeserved victims as identified.

6. Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of the program goals and objectives, ensuring the quality of services delivered to the survivors and community.

7. Represent Safer Futures by participating in community activities, coalitions and taskforce groups as requested or assigned by supervisor.

8. Identify, recruit and train new staff and volunteers for Safer Futures’ programs to build and expand the volunteer base and orient new staff.

9. Complete all necessary statistical information, surveys and documentation as directed.

10. Attend staff meetings as scheduled and participate in staff development activities. Assist in providing training related to domestic violence, trauma and community services that are available to victims.

11. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with diverse populations. Ability to model open communication, fair and equitable treatment, management of conflicts and work in team structure.

12. Computer skills including, but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.

13. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

14. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Criminology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Development & Family Studies, or related field preferred. If no degree, 1-2 years related experience required.

2. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability if applicable.

3. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation) if applicable.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Criminology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Development & Family Studies, or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1-2 years relevant work experience required with underserved or specialized populations, domestic violence victims, or university student populations.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear and drive. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work environment: This position will be in a facility with victims of domestic violence, stalking and/or sexual assault. In addition to interaction with the survivors, the employee may have interactions with families of these individuals, the assailants, law enforcement, and college campus personnel.
