As a Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and executing packaging requirements for aftermarket parts to ensure the timely and efficient receipt and delivery of material from suppliers. Proper aftermarket packaging requirements include the part containment, protection, pack quantity, and optimization of transportation and other supply chain functions. This position is a key role in supporting customer ready packaging within the Caterpillar supply base for all phases of the product lifecycle and includes working with suppliers and process partners to ensure aftermarket packaging expectations and requirements are met.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead Packaging Improvement Projects and Changes with suppliers and business partners
  • Establish packaging and processing specifications at the part number level for new product introductions, cost savings, or other supply chain improvement
  • Follow global packaging processes and perform cost analysis on packaging processes and recommend packaging solution changes
  • Report and upload data/information to enterprise packaging system.
  • Communicate with existing facilities on packaging issues related to receiving, warehousing, and/or line side delivery
  • Ensure parts are protected, shipped, and delivered to the customer in a usable fashion
  • Resolve issues reported by customers and process partners
  • Develop, communicate, and maintain supplier packaging requirements
  • Audit conformance to packaging specification
  • Joint Process Improvement with packaging vendors and purchasing


Basic Qualifications

  • College or university degree related to manufacturing or Supply Chain
  • In lieu of a degree, 2 years of experience in Manufacturing, Operations, Inventory Management, Material Requirements and/or Supply Chain/Logistics is required.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, organization, and communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of 6 Sigma project management principles
  • Develop and deploy creative / original solutions to complex problems
  • Knowledge of material handling equipment and manufacturing processes
  • Familiar with company policies and procedures with a strong aftermarket parts background
