PACS TECHNICAL SUPPORT ENGINEER
An established health services organization based in New York City has an opening for a PACS Administrator/Technical Support Engineer. Our ambulatory healthcare centers are staffed with a wide range of health professionals to provide extensive medical and diagnostic services.
This position will report in a line capacity to the senior manager, radiology computing manager, and IT Director. The incumbent is responsible for leading the operational duties for the picture archiving and communication system (PACS). The individual will act as a liaison in digital imaging initiatives within the IT department and other departments (radiology, cardiology, dental, and optometry).
This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating existing and participation in new PACS and digital imaging initiatives. Responsible for operating, maintaining, upgrading, and enhancing medical imaging equipment and software in conjunction with senior management, radiology computing and information technology, and administrative supervisor of radiology.
The ideal candidate will analyze break/fix issues and work to deliver solutions to meet customer needs, ensuring all customers receive prompt and courteous support enabling the highest possible customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto routing, and prefetching and other related activities. Works closely with unit operations managers to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission, RIS validation, and exceptions handling.
- Investigates, identifies, and prepares proposals to solve specific operational problems within all clinical operational areas, working closely with unit operations managers and division heads as well as involving the next level of administration as appropriate.
- Works closely with the senior manager of radiology computing and information technology, in the development of operating standards, policies, and procedures. Reviews feedback from customers, compiles and analyzes support data, and recommends procedural and educational changes as appropriate.
- Works closely with radiology’s quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes, which include further integration into operations.
- Works closely with department managers, medical imaging, to oversee and coordinate strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives.
- Acts as liaison between radiology, optometry, dental, and cardiology departments and the IT department related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new medical imaging endeavors.
- Oversees and coordinates strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives.
- Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems.
Qualifications:
- 4 or more years of experience in line management and healthcare project management in a hospital or clinic setting
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent experience. Master’s degree in related field strongly preferred
- Excellent written/oral communication skills. Must be able to work effectively with a diverse group of people
- Ability to work well under pressure and on concurrent, multidisciplinary projects
- Outstanding troubleshooting skills
- Outcome oriented – successfully manage a set of responsibilities until its completion
- Experience with Dental Imaging PACS (MiPAC)
- Experience with Optometry PACS (Forum)
- Familiar with DICOM and HL7
