PAID job training for unemployed low-income seniors 55 & older
Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
Paid job training is available for low-income, unemployed seniors living in Midland, Bay, Saginaw, Clare, Gladwin, Tuscola, Sanilac and Huron counties.
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is funded under Title V of the Older Americans Act and is a paid job-training program for older job seekers with low incomes.
This program serves as a bridge to unsubsidized employment opportunities for participants.
Services provided to you include:
  • An average of 20 hours a week of part-time paid training in community service assignments at nonprofit and/or government facilities.
  • Job training and related educational opportunities.
  • Opportunities for placement into unsubsidized jobs.
  • Paid the highest of federal, state or local minimum wage.
Training Assignment
During enrollment, you are assigned to a community service assignment at a host agency that will provide hands-on training. Your assignment at the host agency is not a job, but rather a practical training assignment. Your supervisor at the host agency is not your boss, but will supervise your training to help you gain the skills you need to get a permanent job.
As you gain skills through your paid training assignment that are identified in your Individual Employment Plan (IEP), you will eventually be rotated to a different assignment. Your reassignment will provide you with continued growth and the opportunity to learn new skills. The SCSEP staff will be there to help make the transition smooth for you.
