Performs painting, staining and other surface treatments to structural surfaces and property of Skagit Regional Health (SRH) to ensure an aesthetically pleasing environment per established policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
Smoothes surfaces, using sandpaper, wire brushes or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scrapes, wire brushes or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting. Regularly inspect the interior of all areas of buildings and paint as necessary on an ongoing basis. Fills nail holes, cracks and joints with putty plaster or other filler. Selects premixed paints or prepares paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required proportions of pigment, oil and thinning and drying substances. Paints surfaces, using brushes, spray gun or paint roller. Simulates wood grain, marble, brick or tile effects. Creates special effects by applying paint. Places cloth or canvas over floors and furniture to protect them from spattered paint. May perform any or all of the following: Cut stencils and stencil surfaces with lettering or decorations, paint signs on such surfaces as cloth, bulletin boards, etc. Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify each patient’s age-specific needs to promote a safe environment needed by the patient group. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. Maintains a safe environment by ensuring that no small or sharp objects or tools are left out. All electrical outlets have protective covers. Pathways are kept clear of debris, equipment, tools. WET PAINT signs are used. No lead paint is used, latex paint only on all interior surfaces. Communicates appropriately and professionally to patients/families and notifies patient care unit nurses of any concerns/observations. Properly stores, cleans and dispose of all supplies and equipment used according to departmental policies and procedures. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High School Graduate or equivalent required.

Experience/Training
Completion of an accredited painter’s apprenticeship program preferred or minimum five years’ experience as a commercial painter required. Experience with paint brushes, rollers, sprayers. Wallpaper and stain application experience preferred. Prior experience in a hospital or medical setting preferred.

License/Certification
Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license.

Other Qualifications
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Ability to organize, prioritize and work effectively in multi-demand situations. Knowledge of tools and methods of the painting trade. Knowledge of the preparation and use of painting materials and equipment. Ability to mix, blend and match paints.
