Position and Salary
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Paralegal 2 in the Labor and Personnel Division. This position is located in Tumwater, Washington, and is not union-represented.
Paralegal 2 (Range 54) salary range: $54,492 - $73,260
The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
If a position is designated as requiring dual language skills, incumbents will also receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.

Division Information
The Labor and Personnel Division is comprised of 19 attorneys and 12 professional staff located in Tumwater and Spokane. The division provides specialized employment and personnel-related legal services and expertise to Washington State agencies, boards, commissions and institutions of higher education.
What does a Paralegal 2 do?
Provide technical and legal support in every aspect of class action cases and labor and personnel cases. Establish priorities in accordance with relevant statutes, rules of evidence, and court imposed deadlines.
Identify, locate, collect, organize, analyze, and manage documentary, statistical, computer, and demonstrative evidence, including records and other information obtained from public and private sources. Review documents for attorney client privileged communication, work product, and information that is statutorily protected from production.
Independently prepare letters, pleadings, and other documents for litigation, including affidavits and declarations in support of motions. Review and prepare responses to formal discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission; review answers to opposing parties' requests for discovery for completeness and proper objections.
Research and gather facts; identify legal issues; interview witnesses to obtain information relating to the facts and defenses of the case. Report findings to attorneys and prepare memoranda, as appropriate, to the case file.
Conduct legal and other technical research utilizing Westlaw, CBAs, library resources, state archives, documents provided by the clients, and the internet regarding case specific issues, case law, and legislative history.
Prepare for and participate in trials and hearings, working with the litigation team during case development and preparation, including analysis of legal issues, exhibit preparation, and presentation of the case during trial. Prepare witnesses, documentary evidence, computer generated evidence, and demonstrative evidence for trials, hearings, depositions, and any other proceeding in which testimony is required.
Identify and provide information and evidence to experts. Assist in drafting contracts and tracking payments to lay and expert witnesses. File documents at the court and serve documents on opposing counsel.
Serves as primary reader to review all mail and identifies, calculates, and calendars critical events pursuant to AGO Policy and Procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Option 1: Graduation from an accredited two-year paralegal program plus two years’ experience as a paralegal.
Option 2: Graduation from an accredited four-year college and completion of a nine-month paralegal program plus one year experience as a paralegal.
Option 3: Three years’ experience as a paralegal.
Option 4: Two years as a Paralegal 1 in Washington State service.

Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen.
