• Provides professional patient care and transportation in accordance with all departmental and St. Joseph Health System operating policies, city and state laws, and applicable contracts.

• ESSENTIAL

• Personal, crew, patient and bystanders safety: Scene size up, emergency scenes are dynamic events; the Paramedic should always look out first for their safety and then the safety of others.
• Patient Assessment and delivery of care: Provides patient care functions according to protocol, procedure and written directives to level of certification. Performs a patient assessment throughout a call on every patient encountered, providing appropriate treatment and transportation decisions.
• Maintains and improves skill level and knowledge base: Attends/participates in 75% of annual departmental training and completion of annual Skills Competency Fair.
• Lifting and moving patients: Ensure proper lifting, moving patients safely and effectively.
• Transport and Transfer of Care: Verifies patient identification prior to transport, contacts receiving facility prior to delivery along with providing a patient care report, also providing safe delivery to or from the hospital and aircraft. Transfer the patient to the appropriate facility and health care provider giving complete/accurate verbal patient care report. Assures geographic knowledge of service area (communities, towns, cities and counties), utilizing appropriate map/GPS reading skills.
• Record keeping and data collection: Neatly and accurately completes written and electrical Patient Care Reports (ePCR), leaves a copy of the transported patient's report at every facility - ED.
• Patient Advocacy: Assist patient with special concerns that will need to be brought to hospital personnel's attention (i.e. geriatric patient who may require additional home care).
• Completes daily equipment checks and maintenance: Assures equipment readiness, including cleaning as needed or required, along with proficiency in equipment operation safely, repairs within scope of abilities, and reports deficiencies when noticed to supervisor and relief crew. Checks MediTech, HealthEMS and other information devices while on duty daily.
• Performs other duties as assigned to meet the organization`s needs.

  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics when performing job. Demonstrates correct use of supplies, equipment, tools and chemicals after training.   • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Sits, stands and walks for long periods of time. Transports and/or maneuvers items/people/equipment weighing up to 200 pounds. Carries, pushes/pulls, lifts up to 125 pounds. Operates electrical devices with keyboard and push buttons. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity eye hand coordination. Must be able to communicate fluently and clearly in the English language both verbally and Written. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Requires frequent exposure communicable diseases and blood/body fluids. May require working in confined spaces or in the elements (rain, heat, cold, etc.) Hears normal conversation with others and normal use of the telephone. Visualizes with accuracy, with or without glasses or contacts lenses up to twenty (20) feet, recognizing color, shape and size.

  CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator) Certification.

  PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) Certification.
  Attends 50% of all department sponsored CE classes.
