Job Title/Position: Parent Liaison - Department/School: Campus

Primary Purpose:

Creates a welcoming school environment for parents/guardians; conducts outreach through a variety of communications to empower
parents/guardians to be actively engaged in their children’s education; organizes family involvement events/activities; manages school-based
volunteer opportunities; works with the principal to address parent/guardian issues and concerns at school.

This position will provide critical support to prevent, prepare for, or respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, including its impact
on the social, emotional, mental health, and academic needs of students. Funds for this position are expected to be available
for a limited time. In addition to other specified conditions of employment, the applicant understands that no guarantee of
continued employment, beyond the availability of the funds, is expressed or implied by Pflugerville Independent School
District.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED); experience in community-based outreach program and/or non-profit; experience
working with culturally diverse communities.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Work directly with the campus principal to support parent outreach efforts that will impact student achievement; assist with Title I, Part A
Parental Involvement requirements.

2. Serve as liaison between school and home; establish trusting relationships and serve as a point of contact for families; create a welcoming
school environment.

3. Assist to identify student and parent needs; provide community referrals to families, as needed.

4. Work closely with other school staff to coordinate services for students and families, including: School Support Staff, English Language
Department Staff, Special Education Staff, teachers and administrators.

5. Communicate with campus administrator to identify students with attendance issues and other needs; advocate for families, as appropriate.
6. Provide clear communication between campus administrators and families.
7. Collaborate and co-facilitate with administrators and teachers during parent/family involvement activities.
8. Assist families in an effort to navigate the school system, assisting with awareness of available campus, district, and community social

services and their attainment.
9. Work with bilingual parents/guardians and staff to ensure use of interpreter services as available for parent-teacher conferences, school

meetings/activities and as requested.
10. Prepare outreach materials for distribution in language(s) of parents/guardians (i.e. flyers about upcoming events/activities, school calendar

of events, available school/community resources etc.); ensure multilingual signs, bulletin boards, and other displays are visible at school
entrance/lobby to welcome all parents and provide information.

11. Conduct outreach to empower parents/guardians to be actively engaged in their children’s education; survey parents/guardians on
welcoming environment, parent involvement opportunities and perceived access to information/resources.

12. Develop ongoing relationships with community-based and local faith-based organizations; make presentations to provide school
information.

13. Stay abreast of information/resources and support available to families and share with parent/guardian ways to support their children’s
learning at home; provide information on services available to eligible students and families and encourage participation, as appropriate.

14. Attend appropriate parent and family engagement trainings and meetings, PTA and parent support meetings, and other relevant meetings
within the community, as assigned.

15. Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and employee personal information.
16. Follow Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws and State/Federal regulations.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of scope of work done within campus
  • Knowledge of the various annual timelines associated with the campus
  • Skill in communicating effectively with others
  • Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments
  • Skill in working with computer tools, including but not limited to, email, internet, word processing and spreadsheets
  • Skill in working with and presenting to diverse populations of educators, students, parents and community members

Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):

Prolonged use of computer; work regularly requires work outside the normal work week; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 20 lbs.
Some in-district travel.
