Job description

Incumbent serves as Park Leader for the St. Joseph County Parks & Recreation Department, responsible for overseeing general upkeep and maintenance of Park facilities and grounds (Bendix Woods, Ferrettie Baugo Creek, St. Patrick’s, Spicer Lake, etc.), as assigned.
Essential Functions:
Assures proper clean up, maintenance and repair of Park grounds, buildings and equipment, including mowing, grading, digging, hauling gravel, shoveling, raking, trimming trees, landscaping, painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work, janitorial work and other maintenance as needed. Maintains safety in ice and snow, including snow removal and applying salt to sidewalks/roads in winter months.
Provides supervision for work crews, including making daily work assignments, providing training/instruction on ground maintenance techniques and proper operation/maintenance of equipment and tools, evaluating job performance, inspecting assigned duties, and providing corrective instruction as needed. Periodically, interviews job applicants and makes hiring recommendations.
Supervises and assists in the construction of facilities, shelters, buildings, trails, signs and other construction projects as necessary.

Qualifications*
High school diploma or GED. Minimum four (4) years supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in building trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC. Must be at least 21 years of age.
