PARKS MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR - FACILITIES AND RIVER DISTRICT

Hiring Range: $6,390 - $7,192 Monthly

About the Position:

The City of Grand Junction is accepting applications for a Park Operations Supervisor. This exciting opportunity is one of four maintenance management positions within our growing department. The primary responsibilities of a successful candidate are to the quality services provided by our Facility Maintenance, River District teams (Las Colonias & Dos Rios), and Cemetery Operations teams. The Parks and Recreation Department is under the larger City of Grand Junction umbrella, which is a home-rule municipality.

As the Facilities and River District Supervisor you will oversee and coordinate the maintenance and operations within some of Grand Junctions highest profile parks and facilities. Keystone amenities for this position include the Las Colonias Business Park, Las Colonias Amphitheatre and the Dos Rios Park corridor. This position will also have responsibilities tied to various park facilities across the entirety of Grand Junction's park system, including the landscape maintenance and operations of our municipal cemeteries (Orchard Mesa and Crowne Pointe).

About the Parks Operations Division:

This recruitment is happening at a very exciting time, as the City of Grand Junction completing our Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan at the close of 2020. This plan plots our course for the next 8 – 10 years and is jammed packed with improvements and new opportunities in our system. Our supervisor team will support the creation and drive the completion of this community vision. This is but one of many very exciting things happening in the City of Grand Junction. The selected candidate will be centrally involved in helping us continue to maximize the quality and quantity of services for the citizens and visitors of Grand Junction, to build community and better the quality of life on the Western Slope.

Our park system includes Lincoln Park, Canyon View Regional Park, Main Street Shopping District and the River District. 350 acres of developed parks, 111 acres of cemetery, 55 acres of school grounds, and more than 598 acres of open space round out the expanse of our parks system. Our operations division works closely with recreation for programming and events.

Duties

What You'll Do:

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of assigned staff.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives for assigned programs and functions.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the department’s annual budget.
  • Serve as safety officer for identified divisions of the Parks & Recreation Department.
  • Determine need for new equipment; conduct research and prepare bid specifications; requisition supplies and materials; maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Assist with the development of capital improvement projects.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing assigned services and coordinating maintenance of parks vehicles and equipment.
  • Prepare and review a variety of reports and documents related to the maintenance of time, material and equipment use records; track and analyze data related to the evaluation of performance, cost, and service levels.
  • Inspect the work of crews in progress and upon completion; provide advice and assistance to crew members; ensure maintenance and construction procedures are completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner and in compliance with City, departmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and deliver various educational opportunities and special events to employees and the public regarding tree care, safety training or horticultural maintenance.
  • Assist in the development and strategies for master planning including community participation.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For:
  • Four (4) years of responsible parks maintenance and/or construction experience including one (1) year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in forestry, horticulture, landscape maintenance, sports facilities, or a related field.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver License.
Other combination of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
