The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Trainee for Parks Manager, Associate- Part Time 19 at Long Key Nature Center.

General Description- TRAINEE
Performs support duties in an agency in order to gain knowledge, skills and professional experience. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures and work is reviewed through observation of performance, frequent conferences and reports. Employees participating in the Trainee Program/Classification receive hands-on work experience and on-the-job training, which may be supplemented by related educational activities. These activities may include participation in County training or skills development programs, requisite external educational coursework, and/or completion of certificate programs.
Through this Trainee Program, an individual who does not meet all minimal requirements for a specific job classification has an opportunity to gain the job experience and/or training necessary to qualify and potentially transition into the job classification.

General Description- Parks Manager, Associate
Performs management duties associated with a regional park, neighborhood park, and/or a nature center. Supervises subordinate supervisors and staff engaged in maintenance, security, concessions, and recreational programming services.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements-TRAINEE:
To be eligible for participation individual must be at least 18 years of age and able to comply with all applicable County employment guidelines.
Must also be able to fulfill the minimum job requirements of the associated job classification the employee is training for within a maximum of two (2) years from the date of hire.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements- Parks Manager, Associate:
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in parks and recreation management, hospitality management, public administration, business administration, environmental sciences, engineering, or closely related field.

Requires one (1) year managing park operations or natural areas or closely related experience including one (1) year lead work/supervisory experience.

Or any equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License with authority to drive a county vehicle for duration of appointment.

Preferences
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Information:
All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination and drug testing. Ability to maintain authorization to operate a county vehicle/equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities depend significantly upon the classification the incumbent is in training for.
The functions listed below are general in nature for time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Receives training and performs duties related to the area of assignment.
Observes experienced workers/management to acquire knowledge of work methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance in the job the incumbent is training for.
Performs hands-on work and receives on-the-job training relevant to the training position/area.
Applies research techniques and analytical methods to the study of administrative systems, organizational structures, policies and procedures related to the area of assignment.
Conducts special studies in conjunction with a project; analyzes data and makes recommendations based upon research; Prepares project reports and related data.
Responsible for project assignments, research and analysis.
Provides administrative and/or operational support to the agency which may include relevant reporting, data-entry, presentation creation, strategic planning or customer service.
The following Duties and Responsibilities are specific to the Parks Manager, Associate job classification:

Manages day-to-day park operations to include program implementation, staff support and supervision, customer service, facilities maintenance and security, and compilation of various operational reports related to safety, attendance and personnel issues, revenue, and inventory.

Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates employees. Supervises the volunteer program as site coordinator; develops volunteer opportunities.

Ensures compliance with directives, policies, procedures, laws, contracts, agreements and health and safety standards as it pertains to a park operation within a governmental agency.

Plans, organizes, implements and supervises community events and programs including education for leisure activities, athletics, tournaments, festivals, concerts, fairs, and expositions.

Works with organized groups and individuals to assess community-wide program needs and interests, formulates new programs, develop additional amenities, and support agency goals.

Supervises concession facilities to include ordering and inventorying food and purchasing equipment.

Reviews and approves requisitions for materials and supplies for park operations and maintenance.

Maintains budgets and records of revenue and expenditures of an assigned park or recreational facility.

Responds to incidents within the park and prepares narrative reports of incidents; enforces or refers enforcement to proper authorities.

Explains and interprets rules and regulations, fees, and charges.

Responds to park patron issues, complaints, comments and requests - listens, explains policies and procedures, resolves issues, and follows up as appropriate.

Conducts periodic inspections of all park areas and facilities; observes deficiencies in operation, safety, and condition; issues verbal or written directives to correct deficiencies.

Communicates with managers/supervisors, administrative staff, volunteers and the public in a positive and professional manner.

Maintains a professional and positive relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and stakeholders.

Performs related work as assigned.
