Part-time Counselor I, Evenings
Job description
This is a 10-month on campus position with the option to work during the summer. Hours are part time up to 25 hours per week and would be evenings 2pm-7pm. Starting salary is $36.14 to $42.13 per hour.
SCOPE OF WORK: Provides assessment, counseling, and advising whereby students can gain insight, change behavior, and improve life management skills through a wellness model. This position reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs at NHTI - Concord’s Community College.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provides short-term individual mental health counseling in areas of personal, educational, interpersonal relationships, family, social and psychological issues. Counseling sessions will be held in-person and/or telehealth environment;
- Establishes relationships and liaisons with outside agencies in order to provide appropriate student referrals, as well as student development education training programs;
- Provides assessment, education and intervention around alcohol and drug abuse., using best practice models to address abuse of alcohol and drugs in both a campus and community environment, including referrals made through our Student Conduct process;
- Works in conjunction with the Associate Vice President of Student Success & Enrollment, Campus Safety and Residential Life to develop, implement and provide crisis intervention and emergency coverage protocols, as appropriate;
- Provides consultations and in-service professional development for faculty members, administrators, staff, and student staff members and paraprofessionals;
- Provides appropriate student development evaluation and assessment techniques, conducts systematic qualitative and quantitative evaluations of all areas of responsibility.
- Participates in various NHTI activities that includes but is not limited too; orientations, open houses, academic ceremonies, campus committees, etc.;
- Provides all services using a lens of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and culturally competent practices;
- Is knowledgeable of data analytics and evidence-based assessments to evaluate institutional and departmental effectiveness.
- Embraces and adheres to the Mission and Vision of the college along with the college’s Strategic Plan.
- Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major study in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years of experience as a social worker or mental health counselor including experience with social and psychological issues, crisis intervention, substance abuse, and/or group counseling
License/Certification: New Hampshire driver’s license or access to statewide transportation.
Desired Qualifications: Counseling experience in a college setting. Current NH licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or School Social Worker.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of counseling principles and techniques. Considerable knowledge of learning, behavior, and emotional patterns of both traditional and new traditional college students. Ability to maintain rapport with students, faculty and staff. Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare written reports. Ability to instruct students, faculty and staff concerning counseling roles and techniques, leadership roles, and human relations. Competency in presentation skills, group process and conflict management training. Ability to exercise professional judgment and to handle sensitive and confidential matters appropriately and professionally. Knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, Banner, EAB Navigate and Microsoft Outlook.
