Reports To Physical Plant Management

General Function

The Housekeeper/Groundskeeper shall be responsible for the appearance, cleanliness and sanitation of areas assigned to him/her by the Physical Plant Management and/or building administrator.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma and/or work experience in cleaning procedures.
  • Consistent promptness and dependability.
  • Physically capable of performing all assigned duties.
  • Able to follow safety and appearance guidelines.
  • Able to pass a physical examination.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  • Willing to accept varied job assignments and participate in training to operate equipment.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Positive leadership skills.
  • Able to work as a member of a team and contribute to the agency vision and goals.
  • Must complete and pass required criminal history check.

Essential Duties

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform work assigned by Physical Plant Management, designee and/or the building administrator. Work assignments include general cleaning, floor stripping and finishing, refilling and inspecting all soap and paper dispensers in the assigned areas, dusting filing cabinets, counter tops, locker tops and ledges.
  • Perform other work such as cleaning walls, windows and glass display cases, polishing metal surfaces, dust mopping or vacuuming rooms and hallways assigned, spot washing walls, performing carpet cleaning and maintaining classroom and office cleanliness.
  • Assist with snow and litter removal around building entrances when necessary.
  • Maintain all housekeeping/groundskeeping equipment and custodial/housekeeping closets in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Deliver inter-district mail to local districts on a weekly basis (if assigned).
  • Assist in sanding, painting and refinishing, minor repairs and changing light bulbs in agency buildings.

1 Housekeeper/Groundskeeper

  • Assist in summer cleaning tasks.
  • The Housekeeper/Groundskeeper will perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance and care of the

Agency grounds and landscapes which includes the operation of electrically or gasoline powered equipment and machines. The use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating and trimming of grounds and Landscape.

  • Complete work requests for interior and exterior building upkeep via the SchoolDude online work order system.
  • Assist groups using meeting rooms as needed, including room set ups and refreshments.
  • Assure all safety devices (i.e., fire extinguishers and alarms) are operable, advising Physical Plant

Management of any and all deficiencies.

  • Provide feedback to Physical Plant Management on supplies and equipment to provide the most cost- effective and efficient operation possible.
  • Responsible for securing buildings at the end of shift.
  • Predictable/reliable attendance.
  • Act as a resource, if needed, to employees, students and the general public visiting the NC RESA.
  • Possess knowledge of NC RESA’s organization, mission and philosophy.
  • Perform any additional duties required by Physical Plant Management and/or the building administrator.

  • The noise level in this position varies. When working in the buildings, the noise level may be loud, and at meetings moderate. Outside conditions will vary based on weather and equipment being used.

Terms of Employment

  • hourly employee (non-exempt, under FLSA guidelines)
  • 12 months per year; 8 hours per day
  • position covered under MESPA Master Agreement
  • evaluated annually by Physical Plant Management
