POSITION IS LOCATED AT THE MARINE SCIENCE INSTITUTE IN PORT ARANSAS, TEXAS.

Come join us at the University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute! We are searching for a Part-Time Security Guard to support the Security team at the Marine Science Institute. The Marine Science Institute is a part of the University of Texas at Austin College of Natural Sciences and is notably the most significant marine science research facility on the Texas coast. UTMSI is internationally recognized for its academic programs and research. Security sensitive; Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing a background check.

Purpose

To provide security services and information to students and staff and protecting university buildings and property. Responsible for ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and staff and protecting University buildings and property.

Responsibilities

  • Completes UTMSI security report with detailed and time interval information. Monitors all e-mails periodically during shift. Forwards a briefing with in-coming guard on all activity to set forth as priority and post on reports for follow ups.
  • Drive a UT vehicle on occasion to other UT campuses for patrol and reports any vehicle maintenance / damages.
  • Familiar with the fire panels’ procedures on campus.
  • Monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties. Reports directly to the appropriate responsible staff for all building operation on alerted alarms / maintenance issues /work orders.
  • Periodically communicates to local emergency agencies, i.e., sheriff, constables, police, and wildlife, EMS, and fire departments for any unauthorized incidents that take place on UT campus. Familiarity with UTPD policies and procedures. Follows chain of command.
  • Provide friendly and quality information to students, employees, and visitors. Professionally addresses all rules and regulations. Patrols all designated areas off campus.
  • Reports on schedule as essential personnel staff. UTPD official uniform & gear presented. Reviews EMS activity schedule report for reservations. Reports all activity posted after hours.
  • Other related functions as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED. Some experience as a guard or police officer.
  • Ability to patrol on foot.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years’ experience as a guard or police officer.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range
$15.50 per hour

Working Conditions
