COMPREHENSIVE CARE AND GENERAL (IN-DSCC-IUINA)

The Indiana University School of Dentistry has been advancing oral health in the state and beyond since 1879, when it was founded as the Indiana Dental College. Over the past 140 years, we’ve become a national leader in preparing oral health professionals, conducting innovative research that has an impact on patients and the profession, and providing patient-centered care.

• Works under the guidance of the Director of Communications to further the mission and vision of the dental school by writing articles, newsletters, social media posts, bio-sketches, and other communications assignments.
• Interacts with IU School of Dentistry administrators, students, faculty, and staff from the Dean’s Office, development/fundraising, student affairs, academic programs, and alumni affairs. Outside of the dental school, the writer will interact with donors, alumni, oral health professionals, and IU communications professionals.
• Writes proactive press releases and social media posts about IUSD accomplishments.
• Writes for print and digital publications for internal and external audiences – alumni, donors, and the oral health community. Publications include biannual alumni magazine, quarterly alumni e-newsletters, and monthly internal newsletter.
• Writes and posts on the school’s social media outlets.
• Cultivates story ideas with student groups, faculty, staff, and alumni.
• Arranges and assists with photo shoots and photo editing.
• Attends and promotes school events.
• Copyedits and proofreads IUSD communications and publications.

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or public relations undergraduate degree OR
• Commensurate experience as a reporter/writer

SKILLS

Required

• Superb written and verbal communications skills. You must be an experienced, excellent writer. This position is writing intensive. You will be supervised by a veteran writer/editor who requires accurate, clean, engaging copy.
• Willingness to learn and master Salesforce online content management system.
• Highly organized, resourceful, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete assignments by set deadlines.

This is a primarily remote position. However, this is subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Occasional need to come to campus for events or meetings.

Pay is $30 per hour, part-time, non-benefitted.

Up to 25 hours per week.

Some weeks may be more or less intensive depending on publication deadlines.
