Part-Time & Full time Patient Care Assistant
Patient Care assistants assist the technicians, doctors and receptionists in all duties of the hospital. The primary purpose of the position is to provide care and the basic needs of animals that are being groomed, boarded, or are patients of the hospital. The care assistant is also responsible to keep the appearance of the hospital immaculate. We are hiring for:
Full time 30-40
Part time 10-20 hours a week
Most weekends
All Holidays
4 hours shifts during the week (full time would be 9 hour shifts)
Available to be called in when needed(relief work)
Sat and Sun a must, split shifts both days
Duties will include:
- To observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent
- Assisting Technicians, Receptionists, and Doctors throughout the day.
- Bringing Guests back, for procedures, boarding, and daycare.
- To thoroughly clean and disinfect the ward areas of the hospital as often as is necessary (ie., ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent).
- To determine the type and amount of food animals receive.
- To take charge and/or handle animals as required and to restrain hard to control animals.
- To walk hospitalized and boarded dogs several times a day to provide exercise and time for elimination of bowels and bladder.
- To groom and provide tender loving care to boarded and hospitalized animals.
- Ability to perform and keep up with all allotted tasks on chore list in a consistent, and appropriate time frame, with quality in mind.
- To perform needed cleaning and maintenance of all equipment and tools used in job assignments.
- Greet every client with a smile and address client and pet by name.
- Give baths (ordinary cleansing, flea, medicated) and does whatever grooming as may be necessary to the treatment and constant cleanliness of each animal.
- Specialty grooming services done once a standard has been set by experienced Kennel (Shave down, dremel, nail trim, brush out and Ear cleaning) assistant.
- Promote grooming and bathing services (asking owners about add-ons and specials).
- Make sure animals are clean and smell fresh prior to discharge.
- Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to technicians/veterinarians.
- Feed each animal as prescribed by the client or the attending D.V.M. Records appetites
- Keeps kitchen area clean and neat.
- Wash and dry towels and blankets. Also be proactive with surgical drapes needing cleaning.
- Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
- Patrol hospital grounds daily, picking up any trash and stool material.
- Record correct weight, and compare from last visits weight to notate any change.
- Record all procedures to be done at intake
- Label all belongings appropriately so they correspond on any documents.
- Bring up all belongings, boarding report cards and that animals are presentable (brush/groom aid).
- On discharge ask owners if they have everything they came with.
- Give Kennel cough vaccine intro-nasally (bord-6)
- Be aware of contagion protocol and symptoms.
- Be aware of flea dirt during kennel/ Cage cleaning and to report it as needed.
- Physical Effort: Often requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Frequently requires handling of materials up to 20 lbs. Additionally, handle dogs weighing up to 150lbs. Walking and/or standing for long periods. Frequently in a bent position. May required using strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals.
