Job Summary

The Payroll Assistant I performs basic accounting and clerical work related to processing the Milwaukee Public Schools payroll on a bi-weekly basis.

Salary Range: $35,373 - $49,010

A resume and three (3) letters of recommendation must be attached to the completed application. Each letter must be manually signed by its author and dated less than one (1) year old. Appointment by the Board of School Directors is contingent upon a passing criminal background check, a passing drug/alcohol test, and credential verification. Qualifications

  • An Associate’s degree or post-high school training, preferably in Accounting, Payroll, or Human Resources is required.
  • Two years of previous experience working in a high-volume, customer-focused area is required.
  • PeopleSoft experience is desired.
  • Equivalent combinations of job-related coursework and experience may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Calculates hours worked from time documents, production reports, and other written sources. Makes changes as necessary.
  • Maintains payroll-related records. Responds to inquiries regarding pay and deduction policies and practices.
  • Inputs data into a computerized payroll system.
  • Processes adjustments to pay, to include additional pay categories.
  • Responds to inquiries at the customer service window.
  • Completes employee verifications for mortgages and other financial transactions.
  • Actively supports the Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
