Job Title: Peer Recovery Coach – MAT Services
Program: GRAN-SA Residential
Shift: Full-Time 40 hours
Job Hours: Mon – Fri (9AM to 530PM or 11AM to 730PM); Occasional Saturday (8AM - 5:30PM)
The location for this position is: Covington, GA. (Newton Co.)
- The Peer Recovery Coach works as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team working within a continuum of care for Addictive Disease Services with a focus on providing MAT services for individuals with Substance Use Disorders. The Peer Recovery Coach (CPS-AD) will work collaboratively with individuals served, co-workers and the community to promote long-term recovery goals that empower individuals to overcome challenges regarding their substance use and create and meet their own recovery goals. Under direct supervision, provides a broad range of recovery supports and paraprofessional social services to clients self-identifying as being in need of, or seeking recovery from, substance use disorders and potentially the families, friends or allies of clients seeking recovery, on a continuum of care, from the inception of services until discharge.
Job Description:
- Serves as case manager to facilitate and ensure communication, linkage, and continuity of care between clients, physicians, other organizational components, community resources and service providers.
- Documents encounters and activities with clients to develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive records or data in accordance with agency documentation guidelines
- Monitors and documents progress towards treatment goals and successful engagement in services
- Establishes linkages and coordination of services with community agencies. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with community service providers. Informs clients and families of the availability of community advocacy and support groups.
- Administrative duties, such as sending and receiving emails and telephone calls, and completing required documentation.
- Utilizes peer supports to assist client in developing recovery capital goals/Personal Recovery Plans and assists client with locating and utilizing community resources to obtain their recovery capital goals, such as, but not limited to legal, medical, financial assistance, and other referral services
- Assists in maintaining the residence or environment in a clean and organized condition, supplementing the efforts of the residents to assure a sanitary living environment. Plans, prepares meals and serves meals and adheres to all food and safety guidelines and standards.
- Advocates on behalf of individuals served and help them to navigate behavioral health systems. In accordance with SAMHSA guiding principles, Peer Specialist will engage and support individuals in the four major types of recovery support services including (1) peer mentoring and coaching, (2) recovery resource connecting, (3) facilitating and leading recovery groups, and (4) building community.
- Encourages and supports client to participate in group, individual counseling, ADSS, nursing assessments, provider appointments, MAT services, and any other recommended treatment services for obtained and sustained recovery
- Alerts all staff relationships and/or programs when the safety or well-being of client is at risk and work to effectively manage the risk.
- Provides information and education about addiction, the recovery process, community supports, and recovery pathways.
- Provides support to families and allies of clients who have experienced overdose or other challenges with substance misuse.
- Attends and participates in treatment team meetings to provide input.
- Provides supports, coordinates with, and acts as a liaison between client, approved family members, friends, allies, medical staff, case manager and with other treatment programs to assure that clients are receiving services at the appropriate level of care
- Manages, develops, and sustains relationships with community resources
- Maintains existing, or develops and sustains, new relationships with community resources, supports and services.
- b. Provides linkage to and follow-up about resources as clients or their support systems may need.

Job Requirements/Competencies:
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and subject to random drug screens
- Must have valid Driver’s License and a clean Motor Vehicle Record in accordance with company policy
- Must pass a criminal background check (including fingerprinting)
- Requires TB Evaluation at pre-employment and annually
- Requires negative Covid test at employment
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds
- Requires long periods of sitting/standing
- Must have the following technical skills – Word, Excel, Medication Administration Record (MAR) and ability to learn Electronic Health Record
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED AND any combination of training and experience, which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES)
- Lived experience accessing behavioral health services is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Have a CPS-AD Certification from the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse
- Two (2) years of experience supporting individuals with behavioral health challenges
- Successful completion of CARES training and/or Peer Support Training
- Experience delivering group skills training using evidenced based materials
- Is FRIENDLY, KIND, and POSITIVE. Excellent communication & interpersonal skills; enjoys working w/ others; is flexible, quick to adapt to changing, fast-paced environment.
- MUST HAVE great organization, time-management & documentation skills.
- Experience with adults with Substance Abuse Disorders/ Co-Occurring Disorders
- Experience with CareLogic electronic health record
