Peer Support Specialist
Job description
Volunteer Behavioral Health is now seeking a Part-time Peer Support Specialist in the Murfreesboro area.
Responsible for duties as assigned by the Program Manager, which will include, but not be limited to:
1. Participate in program activities, interact with members and encourage member participation in the activities.
2. Attend peer counselor training and meetings including TN CPRS training (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist), as required.
3. Maintain a TN Driver’s License with F Endorsement and be willing to transport members. Must also meet company insurance policies.
A. Pick up and drop off members on a prearranged schedule.
B. Be in control of vehicle at all times to ensure safety to the consumers.
C. Ensure all vehicle rules are observed (seatbelts, no smoking or eating, etc.).
D. Do routine checks daily of van lights, signals, emergency flashers, horn, wipers, gauges, and fuel.
E. Ensure the van is clean and presentable to the public as it represents the Peer Support Center and VBHCS.
4. Listen and talk to members about problems they may be having, using the Peer Counseling training received.
5. Assist Program Manager with duties, as assigned.
6. Attend a food safety course to properly handle food served on special occasions.
7. Aid in conflict resolution with members.
8. Treat all members and staff with respect; treat members as peers.
9. Encourage members to sign in on a daily attendance form.
10. Be willing to serve as role models for members.
11. Agrees to follow all applicable laws and regulations, including VBHCS Standards of Conduct and VBHCS Policies and Procedures, in order to create and maintain a healthcare and business environment that is committed to integrity and ethical conduct.
12. Assist in other duties as deemed necessary, including cleaning, daily maintenance, and opening/closing procedures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED preferred. Must be able to interact with members, encourage involvement in daily activities, provide transportation, and maintain strict confidentiality of information regarding members and staff in all situations. Requirements include a valid TN Driver’s License with F Endorsement, good driving record, CPR and First Aid certifications (company will provide training if needed.
Applicant must be in recovery from a mental illness and/or a substance use disorder. A minimum of 2 years in active recovery is highly encouraged for this position. This is required for CPRS certification, which is highly encouraged to have or to receive while working in the program.
