Davis Behavioral Health is seeking a full-time Youth MCOT Peer Support Specialist to provide case management services as a member of the Youth Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT) located in Layton, UT. The Youth MCOT Peer Support Specialist works collaboratively within a team to provide crisis response and stabilization services to youth and families in Davis County experiencing behavioral and/or mental health challenges. This position is community based and requires the individual to provide services in homes, schools, and other community settings.

Primary Job Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing the following essential job functions:

  • Respond to crisis calls and participate in mobile deployments in the community with a clinician as needed
  • Provide immediate intervention to assist the child/youth and their caregivers de-escalate behaviors and emotional symptoms impacting the child/youth’s ability to function
  • Connect youth and families to ongoing services and supports to help support the child in maintaining in the community
  • Work collaboratively with the team to provide stabilization services to families, which may include conducting needs assessments, providing skills coaching and/or respite, coordination with schools and other child serving agencies, and linking to appropriate resources and longer-term services.
  • Provide routine follow up with youth and families after crisis situations in order to promote continued stability.
  • Complete clinical documentation of all services within agency guidelines.
  • Other responsibilities, as assigned.

Preference may be given for candidates who use his/her own recovery experience and training to assist consumers.


Schedule

This position entails a 40-hour per week schedule and is normally assigned to weekdays. This schedule may require evening work to accommodate the needs of the clients and their families. DBH reserves the right to require overtime, weekend work, and/or assignment to evening or night shifts, depending upon operational need, some in and out of state travel may be required.

Compensation

  • $17.00 per hour for candidates without a bachelors degree
  • $18.00 per hour for candidates with a bachelors degree and no professional license
  • $21.00 per hour + based on years of licensure for candidates with an active SSW license

Required Experience:


The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening. DBH will not hire individuals currently using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol; therefore, making employment at DBH conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug screening by providing a valid sample. Candidates who are offered employment are required to report for a drug screen at an Intermountain WorkMed location within 24 hours of being requested to do so by the DBH Human Resources Department.

Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants and must comply with the Federal drug laws, including no use of medical marijuana.

The Youth MCOT Peer Support Specialist is required to be First Aid and CPR certified and complete certification as a Targeted Case Manager (TCM) within 30 days of hire.

The successful candidate must be certified as a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) by the Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health. Candidates who meet eligibility requirements to become a CPSS (http://hsemployee.utah.gov/dsamh/cps/) will also be considered with the expectation that certification as a Targeted Case Manager (TCM) is completed within the first 30 days of employment and certification as a Peer Support Specialist is completed as soon as possible, but no later than 6 months after hire.

Requirements to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist include:

  • Have lived experience and be a person in sustained recovery for at least one year from Mental Health and or Substance Use.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have at least a HS diploma or equivalent.

Strong preference will be given for candidates with experience in crisis intervention, specifically with youth and families, and in providing clinical care to youth and their families.

Targeted Case Management Certification

Candidates who do not hold a professional license must complete certification as a Targeted Case Manager (TCM) within the first 30 days of employment.

Qualifications to become a certified Targeted Case Manager through the State of Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health include:

  • 400 hours of work, volunteer, and/or education experience in human services or a related field
  • Required 40-hour case management practicum and examination provided by DBH during the TCM certification class.

Preference will also be given to candidates who are bilingual English/Spanish.

The successful candidate must also have a clean driving record to operate agency vehicles and/or transport clients, when necessary.

Davis Behavioral Health utilizes an electronic medical record, which requires proficiency in computer-related skills.

Meeting monthly face-to-face service expectations and productivity standards is also required.

The successful candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment background screening, drug screening, and have a clean driving record.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with clients that have sever mental illness, are hard working, can work both independently and successfully within a small outreach team.

Skills/Abilities

The Youth MCOT Case Manager should have a demonstrated ability to perform the following skills and abilities:

Must have skills in working with SED populations, substance use, and with individuals and families undergoing acute episodes of psychiatric distress.

  • Demonstrates the skills necessary to motivate and engage youth and their families
  • Knowledge of the techniques and principles of child and family development and family systems theory
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, including screening, assessing, and treating from a trauma-informed lens
  • Good organizational and practice management skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and community/state agencies
  • Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including evenings and weekends

The employee be able to drive & must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record to be covered by DBH insurance. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach, carry, and kneel. The employee must be able to walk on uneven surfaces and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally move or lift 25-50 pounds. The employee must be able to sit at computer workstations for up to 3 hours a day. The employee must be able to stand to speak in public.
