JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Certified performs those duties which do not require the professional training and judgment of a pharmacist. The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Certified maintains specialized knowledge in pharmaceutical nomenclature, medical terminology and mathematical calculations involving dilution of concentrates, ratios, weights and measures. The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Certified demonstrates a capacity to readily learn and sustain a mastery of compounding and filling medication orders, deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas, and management of technology including Carousel and Pyxis. The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Certified learns and demonstrates the ability to maintain effective workflow within the department when staffing as expeditor. Upon completion of all central pharmacy competencies and the Pyxis competency, the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Certified may advance into and train in other specialty areas such as sterile IV/TPN compounding, chemotherapeutic compounding, O.R., Controlled Substances, In-Basket, Research, IV Robot, and/or Transition of Care. Should an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Certified hold prior knowledge and skills in an advanced area of pharmacy, that technician may advance into one of these areas prior to completing central pharmacy and/or Pyxis competencies. This advancement will be made in conjunction with department needs, prior knowledge and skills, and at the discretion of pharmacy management.
EDUCATION:
- Candidate must possess a High School Diploma or GED plus one year of post high school education or relevant work experience required.
- Candidate must possess and maintain active status as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) per Vermont State Board of Pharmacy requirements.
- Candidate will register with the State of Vermont Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician before the start of employment.
EXPERIENCE:
Inpatient pharmacy technician experience or minimum of one year retail pharmacy technician work experience preferred. Other relevant education or work experience may be considered
