New staff must have proof of meeting the vaccination guidelines per CMS guidelines. New staff must be fully vaccinated or have submitted and approved exemption prior to their date of hire.

  • Must have and maintain a valid Michigan registered pharmacy technician license in good standing.
  • Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience as a pharmacy technician is required.
  • Hospital and/or long-term care experience preferred.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Collaborates with nursing and other HSS staff to assure optimal medication delivery to patients/residents and efficient/timely pharmacy services.
  • Enters physician orders into relevant computer systems subject to pharmacist verification.
  • Properly labels and packages medication orders for delivery to the nursing units.
  • Fills medication carts and automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) (e.g. Omnicell) from generated fill lists.
  • Answers pharmacy telephone and in person customer inquiries in a helpful and positive manner.
  • Performs technical/clerical duties in multiple electronic medical (EMR) systems as they relate to drug dispensing, patient admission/discharge/transfer/temporary leave and billing.
  • Processes outpatient prescriptions and payment.
  • Assists in inventory control, ordering and monitoring stock from wholesaler/vendors, and pharmaceutical returns or waste process.
  • Properly stores purchased product, rotates stock, and maintains cleanliness of inventory area.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings.
  • Under direct pharmacist supervision and after completing competency training, may be asked to assist in sterile and/or extemporaneous compounding processes.
  • Is responsible to complete required continuing education activities to maintain LARA pharmacy technician licensure requirements and other hospital education programs as required (e.g. LMS).
  • Acts as a positive representative of HSS in the community.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
