DEFINITION:

Performs professional level accounting work for the Finance Division of Partnership Health Center. Employees within this job class act as lead workers, may have assigned areas of responsibility, and provide back up and support for all accounting and finance duties.

REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Designs and develops detailed, complex financial accounting reports and statements.

Performs general ledger reconciliation duties on a regular basis to ensure transactions are reported in accordance with accounting standards and government regulations. This includes reconciliation of cash, revenues, expenses, payroll and other areas. Compares general ledger account activity to supporting documentation; investigates discrepancies; and prepares adjusting journal entries.

Prepares monthly financial statements, reviewing for accuracy and identifying actual vs budget variances. Works closely with management to ensure their understanding of department budgets and financial performance. Builds upcoming fiscal year’s financial statement template.

Performs grant administration duties including preparing program budgets, tracking expenses, submitting requests for payment, and reporting on financial performance. Ensures financial compliance with agencies and other grantors.

Researches and identifies procedural changes in the department with a focus on enhancing efficiency and transparency of operations. Monitors organization-wide spending and recommends cost saving methods. Analyzes staffing, productivity and revenue performance.

Serves as a lead worker in the Finance Department. Ensures work is completed in a timely manner; provides training; may participate in hiring and scheduling; and may participate in employee development.

Collects, prepares and develops information for annual budget, Federal 330 Grant, Uniform Data System and Medicare Cost reports, annual audit and tax return. Assists other departments, agencies, and the general public to interpret accounting reports and information, and to identify and correct errors.

Reviews and approves claims weekly, ensuring proper coding and documentation. Works with County Auditor’s office to address claims issues.

Assists with setting up accounting and coding on department specific software to coordinate with procedures of Missoula County Financial Services.

Performs related work as required or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Degrees best suited to this position are accounting, math, statistics and information technology. CPA desired.

EXPERIENCE: Requires three years of experience as an accountant. Work experience with an emphasis on report building, account reconciliation, and financial statement analysis is desired. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required. Experience working in health care or governmental setting is desired.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires immunizations or proof of immunity to certain infectious diseases and a TB test. PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

The work requires little physical activity, and the employee commonly remains in an office setting. May require occasional travel, locally and out of town to meetings and training. Requires a significant amount of time performing work at a computer workstation. Requires occasional medium lifting, (boxes, 25-35 pounds) The work is performed in a medical office setting and may expose the employee to communicable diseases.
