Responsible for selection of an appropriate site for venipuncture from patients of all age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adult, geriatric and the collection of a quality blood specimen for all testing ordered by the clinician. Maintains competencies in a variety of special collections as defined by checklist. The employee is responsible for accurately identifying patients and specimens utilizing two patient identifiers. Duties include collection, receiving and distribution of lab specimens, processing of physicians' orders and reports, inventory of supplies, chain of custody collections, processing of reference lab requests and reports. Phlebotomist must also be very familiar with laboratory diagnostic testing terminology in the laboratory information system and how to look up tests for requirements in the various reference laboratory catalogs. This position requires that the phlebotomist be able to multitask and be able to investigate specimen questions and issues. Employee must be able to develop a good working relationship with all laboratory staff, nursing, and physicians. -
Qualifications

High school graduation or GED, and completion of a NAACLS approved phlebotomy program within the last five years or

Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with healthcare workers and patients.

Must be able to work as a "team player" with other technologists, phlebotomists, medical staff, nursing staff, and other hospital employees
Education:High school graduation or GED, and completion of one year full time acceptable work experience as a phlebotomy technician in an accredited laboratory within the last five years. This experience must include venipunctures and skin punctures (Full time experience is considered thirty-five hours per week)Experience:See EducationLicensure/Certification/Registration:Current HeartSaver (CPR/AED)
