Provides treatment to patients as prescribed by physician and after initial and periodic evaluation of patient’s physical therapy and rehabilitation needs have been established by a RPT. When PTA is going to be following a new patient, the RPT will make the initial evaluation visit and assign care to the PTA as appropriate.

Treats patient’s within plan of care developed with RPT to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance using physical means, such as exercise, massage, heat, water, light and electricity. Uses developmental patterns and other methods of facilitation.

Directs and aids patients in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait and functional training, activities of daily living including transfer activities and prosthetic training.

Makes use of equipment such as ultra-violet and infrared lamps, low voltage generation, diathermy and ultrasonic machines.

Observes, records and reports to the RPT the patient’s reaction to treatment and change in patient’s condition.

Teaches the patient and caregivers self-care techniques and activities as appropriate.

Arranges with health agency for use of equipment that is available to patients.

Completes and submits accurate and relevant clinical notes and required documentation in a timely manner in accordance with expected agency standards.

Reports to RPT any change in patient condition.

Possesses through knowledge of principles and practices of physical therapy.

Knowledgeable of socioeconomic factors affecting patients and families.

Knowledgeable of and ability to apply community health principles and practices.

Ability to learn to work with patients’ families and community environment.

Supports practices and communicates VNH’s mission and values

Interacts with clients, referral sources, co-workers and others in a positive, consumer-oriented manner.

Adheres to the Agency’s organizational ethics and corporate compliance plan and safety program.

A.S. degree from accredited school for physical therapy assistants.

PTA license in VT and NH
-
Two (2) years acute care experience preferred.

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, concepts and methodology required of a physical therapist and its practical application in the treatment of patients at home.

PURPOSE
Under the supervision of a registered Physical Therapist and in accordance with agency policies and state practice, acts as a member of the rehabilitation staff, providing physical therapy services according to a patient plan of care.
