Job description
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to inspect structures to ensure that all trades and construction comply with building, zoning and municipal codes. This is accomplished by reviewing requests, reviewing and interpreting plans, contract and permit documents, inspecting structures and projects and work activities, researching technical issues, mediating problems between the public and contractors, explaining permit process to contractors, builders and homeowners, enforcing codes; and issuing permits. Other duties include responding to requests, answering inquiries, researching codes, enforcing planning and zoning laws, investigating complaints and property line disputes, and filing and maintaining documentation.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Code Enforcement Officer Certification; Active registration with TX Dept. of Health.

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice.
2 L Inspects structures for compliance by reviewing requests for inspections, reading and interpreting plans, reviewing and interpreting codes, investigating complaints of unauthorized installations or hazards, approving or denying installation or
construction, developing reports and correspondence, and providing additional information to site owners and construction personnel.
3 S Responds to phone and walk-in requests by providing information on programs and services, answering specific inspection questions, researching technical data, issuing permits, mediating problems or complaints, preparing for inspections, and
recording inspection requests.
4 S Reviews plans, applications and other requests by answering customer inquiries and providing information, conferring with department personnel or architects, contractors, engineers, builders and homeowners, explaining codes and ordinances,
observing violations and construction while driving, and scheduling inspections.
JOB CLASSIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Formal Education Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, and
technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
