The City of Philomath Police Department is accepting applications for a Police Officer or Lateral Police Officer. The Philomath Police Department is an acceredited agency, with 9 sworn personnel including a Chief and a Lieutenant. Philomath residents are active, love the outdoors, and maintain a high quality of life. With a population of just over 5,600, the community is growing but retains a small town feeling, with nearby Corvallis and Oregon State University adding additional amenities and educational oportunities. Philomath features an excellent public school system, great health care, and a short commute to work.

About the Position

This is a full time, non-exempt position, represented by the Philomath Police Personnel Association. The City provides an excellent benefit and compensation package including PERS (City pays employee and employer contributions), City-paid health and dental insurance for employee and family, and many other desirable benefits. The City also offers a variety of additional compensation opportunities for Police Officers such as Intermediate and Advanced Certificate Pay, Special Assignment Pay, and Physical Fitness Incentive Pay.

Training and Experience

The applicant must possess excellent communication skills, a high school diploma or GED, and a willingness to serve in a challenging career field. A college degree or significant college units are preferred.

The applicant must also be a minimum of 21 years of age, a U.S. Citizen, possess a valid Oregon driver’s license and be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation and psychological exam.

The testing will include a written test, the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT), and an oral board.
