Position: Preschool Teacher’s Aide

Reports To: Early Childhood Programs Director

30 hours per week, Monday through Friday

Pay Range: $14-16.00 per hour


General Function: Responsible for providing a high quality developmentally appropriate learning environment that fosters the positive growth and development of children.

Principal Activities:

  • To assist in the care of children, in the absence of the teaching staff and follow the lead of the regular onsite staff.
  • Assist in the care of children, while providing a 15 minute and lunch breaks for the preschool teachers.
  • To provide a nurturing well-organized environment that supports the intellectual, social-emotional, and individual needs of children while encouraging independence and decision making.
  • To engage in positive discipline, setting clear expectations and appropriate consequences that support a child's ability to acquire the skills of self-discipline.
  • To develop a working understanding of various standards to ensure that the standards are being applied.
  • Maintain program supplies and classroom equipment providing regular inventories, implementing a system for regular maintenance checks and disinfecting of toys and supplies. Daily clean up, weekly cot spray, cleaning table and floor after meals, weekly and monthly toy wash.
  • To follow the established schedule and ensure follow through on daily classroom tasks such as basic cleaning, food preparation, room clean up, and disinfecting of food preparation areas. Set up lunch area and cots, prepare toothbrushes.
  • To maintain open communication with the Director and other staff members regarding issues that pertain to the well-being of children and families.
  • Participate in family style meals, appropriately modeling to ensure a quality food service and nutritional experience according to the NAEYC and Child and Adult Care Food Program standards.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend regular staff meetings and professional development workshops.
  • Participate in a minimum of 10 hours of ongoing professional development each year.
  • Attendance at monthly parenting events.
  • Conduct Bus duty when needed for any children who receive Special Education services by the Public School system.

  • While performing functions of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
