Want to be part of a dynamic Engineering Team with the option to work remotely? HSB is adding to our diverse team of experts and looking to hire an engineer who has the skills, industry knowledge and experience to be considered HSB's mechanical equipment expert. This position will be part of our engineering team with a focus on mechanical equipment and systems typically found in processing facilities, machine shops, universities, hospitals, and similar facilities. You will transform your technical knowledge into standards and guidelines that form the foundation of our insurance products and become a key contributor to the success of all of HSB’s business units.

HSB is not your typical insurance company. In the pursuit of differentiating HSB through technology and data analytics, we have an active IIoT program, we own drones and 3D printing equipment, and we actively investigate remote imaging technology and 3D spatial imaging. To support our efforts, we require employees who are not only proficient in their areas of specialization but also have the desire and ability to look forward and envision better way of doing things.

HSB supports the advancement of technology in all industries by providing insurance solutions, risk evaluations, and risk mitigation services. Our engineering knowledge and evaluation are a key part of the solutions that we offer to our clients, and we insure some of the world’s largest and most sophisticated industrial, manufacturing, and research facilities. We provide these services for a wide variety of equipment ranging from high-speed presses to multi-axis CNC machining centers to turbine driven compressors. Examples include:
  • Process Equipment
  • Industrial printing systems
  • Production machinery
  • Medical diagnostic equipment
  • Machining centers
  • Semiconductor manufacturing equipment

For assigned equipment and industries, you will be required to:
  • Evaluate equipment and designs to understand how they function and to identify failure modes
  • Analyze risks associated with equipment or industries
  • Develop engineering standards and best practices for maintenance, operations and testing
  • Assist in the evaluation of individual failures and aggregate failure data
  • Develop training material for both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Develop relationships with equipment manufacturers and participate in technical societies to develop forward-looking trends

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. Advanced degrees or registration as a Professional Engineer is a plus
  • A Master’s degree in Engineering or an MBA is a plus
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is a plus
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in project development, design, manufacturing, construction or maintenance is required. Must have the desire to learn about unfamiliar pieces of equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of a variety of mechanical equipment and systems or experience working as a Plant Engineer or Industrial Engineer is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and presentation skills with the ability to communicate engineering subject matter to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience writing technical papers and specifications is a plus.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry is a plus
  • Knowledge of technical and non-technical aspects of Engineering
  • This job will require approximately 10 - 15% travel.
