Role Summary

The Principal Scrum Master (Coach) is a lead subject matter expert in modeling, coaching, training and consulting on Agile values across the organization. They are responsible for facilitating interaction of multiple teams across multiple parts of the organization while embodying and modeling Agile values, principles and best practices at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role holds the Scrum events at scale where initiatives dictate, assist Product Management Leadership with achieving an actionable well-refined initiative backlog, removing organizational friction, and empowering teams to continually evolve.

Key Duties

  • Defines the12-month+ strategy for Agile adoption, including planning Agile implementations within the organization and leading change, with any necessary custom-training that increases the productivity of the organization.
  • As the lead subject matter expert in Agile methodologies, coaches techniques for effective outcome-based initiative management and lead teams to understand the need for clear and concise asks product teams.
  • Leads the organization to make measurable, reportable, continuous improvement and coaches the organization in effective delivery of cross-team functionality.
  • Influences Leadership, viewed as a strategic partner in the delivery of high-quality, high-value products that contribute to the success of our technology initiatives while creating an environment which embraces Agile values and principles.
  • Makes decisions on cross-group standards, tools, and best practices, operationalizing the plan, build, delivery process, while mentoring other Sr. level Scrum Masters to increase the effectiveness of the application of Agile in the organization.
  • Collaborates with extended teams like Business, Enterprise Architecture, Quality Engineering, Product Design, Security and Leadership to influence and remove impediments to the organization’s progress and manage cross group dependencies.
  • Acts as an advocate and effective coach in modeling Agile values and helps Leadership understanding of value-based prioritization in an Agile environment.
  • Leads the development of large-scale release plans with data and insight and leads the team to develop quicker service delivery and continuous improvement by utilizing feedback and metrics to identify areas of opportunity.
  • Facilitates cross-org Agile events and provides transparency to organization process and progress, including measuring and diagnosing enterprise performance.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 7 years of experience in technology industry and customer-centric applications.
  • 7 Years of experience with Agile team coaching.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent.
  • Deep understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, XP, Lean, and Agile scaling patterns.
  • Fluency using Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks at scale (eg SAFE) and other coordinated Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication and the ability to work with diverse personality types to lead and coach the organization to its highest potential.
  • Ability to understand technical issues at a high level.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Experience in other areas of Software Development such as Engineering Leadership, Technical Program Management, and/or Product Management.
  • Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), ICAgile Certified Expert in Agile Coaching (ICE-AC) or similar.
