The Ohana Addiction Treatment Center is Hawaii’s premier addiction treatment center. As a Joint Commission accredited facility, we are proud to offer Detox, Residential Inpatient, Sober Living and Outpatient treatment services to help those who are challenged with substance use and co-occuring disorders at our program in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The Ohana is looking to fill a full-time chef/cook position. If you are passionate about seeing the rewarding difference you can make in someone’s life, we are excited to get to know you. The chef/cook prepares delicious meals for our clients in treatment. Meals are prepared daily for our census of 10 people. The cook responsibilities include studying recipes, setting up menus and preparing high-quality dishes. You should be able to handle multiple tasks to ensure meals are prepared in a timely manner. You should be familiar with sanitation regulations. If you have experience with advanced cooking techniques and non-traditional ingredients, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, you’ll prepare and deliver a complete menu that delights our clients staying in our facility.
The chef/cook at The Ohana is an intimate job that has a direct connection to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Set up the kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment, like knives, pans and kitchen scales
- Study each recipe and gather all necessary ingredients
- Cook food in a timely manner
- Ensure appealing plate presentation
- Slightly modify recipes to meet customers’ needs and requests
- Monitor food stock.
- Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items
- Experiment with recipes and suggest new ingredients
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area.
- Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changes in the work environment.
- Follows Infection Control Guidelines at all times.
- Maintains supply list for kitchen.
- Maintains a clean environment for clients during shifts in the kitchen.
- Maintain a neat, clean, well-groomed appearance including proper Chef attire.
- Follows time schedules for meal preparation and serving.
- General knowledge and understanding of nutrition.
- Prepares and serves food including texture modified and therapeutic diets according to the approved menu.
- Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, in line with our established policies and procedures
- Clean and sanitize kitchen facilities, utensils and equipment.
- Assists in assuring proper receiving, storage, preparation, serving, sanitation, and cleaning procedures are followed.
- Maintains records and complete reports as required.
- Manages quantity, food production and serving techniques, food safety/sanitation requirements and procedure.
- Interacts positively with residents, clients and other personnel and the public.
- Dependable, trustworthy, team player.
Skills
- Proven work experience as a Chef or Cook
- Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment (e.g. grillers and pasta makers)
- Advanced knowledge of culinary, baking and pastry techniques
- Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks
- Excellent time management abilities
- Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes
- Familiarity with sanitation regulations
- Culinary school diploma preferred
- Must have valid food handlers card
- Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test.
