General Description:

The Processing Technology Manager is responsible for completing assigned duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Processing Technology Manager does this by planning, directing, and coordinating the work activities and resources necessary for maintaining and improving all ESL and aseptic Pasteurized systems including Preventative Maintenance Programs, equipment rebuilds, technological investigations, equipment selection, operational troubleshooting, Processing Vendor relations, and coordination of PM tasks with operational requirements. The Processing Technology Manager completes these functions in the support of the manufacture of dairy related products.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for achieving assigned goals in production, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
  • Oversees overall maintenance of ESL & aseptic processing for Byrne to increase productivity and equipment capabilities
  • Coordinates all equipment and system PM’s / rebuilds / improvements with Processing operations team.
  • Development and upgrades to PM system for all process systems and ancillary support equipment.
  • Development and implementation of escalation steps for performance of process systems.
  • Participate in all design changes / new project design efforts with the Engineering Team to optimize Byrne’s Process functions and higher functional standards for Processing operations.
  • Development and training of Processing PM team and ancillary resources (Plant Maintenance Team) for successfully performing repair and rebuild tasks.
  • Ensures processes are in place to continually provide training to improve supervisory skills of staff, and improve the skill set of the non-exempt production associates to maximize the results of individual and team efforts.
  • Ensures sustained development and implementation of Standardized Work Instructions (SWIs) for the Processing Departments.
  • Participate in all troubleshooting / RCA events to drive improvement and provide guidance and teach of processing and leadership teams in all processing function.
  • Lead all Processing related CQV efforts on upgraded or new systems to validate design functionality in advance of the full operational use.
  • Responsible for complying with GMP’s, SOP’s, corporate and/or plant policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Aids and supports all areas in the production facility as assigned by supervisor.
  • Compliant with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing and reports concerns to their supervisor.
  • Ensure that all tasks and functions of position are always performed in a safe manner and that all procedures and requirements are properly followed to accomplish assigned tasks. Takes corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Responsible for food safety and quality as well as reporting food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance to all OSHA, NYSA&M, FDA, SQF, GMP and EEOC requirements.
  • Communicates effectively between shifts and other departments and provides excellent customer service for all customers.
  • Leads UHT, VTIS, and other training courses as defined.

Essential Knowledge, Skills:

  • Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and knowledge of weights and measure, to sufficiently handle job tasks.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to basic to complex employee, vendor, and customer inquiries.
  • Read, write, and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions (Other preferences will be given for special language skills when there is a business need).
  • Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals, and your role in achieving each of them.
  • Ability to operate facility equipment as required in assigned area.
  • Satisfactorily complete all company training requirements.
  • Ability to interpret company documents and literature and UPC/code information.
  • Must be able to use the Human Interface Machines and computers (stop and startup).

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of GED or High School Diploma is required, Associates or bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in processing; preferably ESL, Aseptic, and/or fresh Grade “A”
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers, instruments and controls required

Performance Standards:

  • Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the assigned Supervisor/Manager prior to the occurrence.
  • Responsible for reporting to work in a condition to work.
  • Responsible for being well-groomed and always dressed in a business-and position-appropriate attire including ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards.
  • Comply with performance criteria, standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
  • Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Work Schedule:

  • Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on assigned shift.
  • Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by Supervisor/Manager.
  • Salaried: Generally scheduled for 40 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.

Environmental Concerns:

  • Normally protected from the weather but must be able to work within varied temperature ranges where exposure to hot/cold, wet, humid conditions exist.
  • May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens
  • May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.
  • Must be able to work with numerous forms of energy such as electricity, steam, pneumatic, and mechanical
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building.
  • Ability to travel to multiple Byrne facilities.
  • Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
  • Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
  • Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.
