JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for the daily operations of a shift for a pork processing facility harvesting over 22,000 animals per day. Provides management to direct reports who manage up to 300+ hourly employees. Provides oversight of production while maintaining product quality and food safety standards to achieve production goals and objectives. Responsible for employee and workplace safety, improving performance, productivity, efficiencies, and profitability of departmental and organizational operations utilizing effective methods and strategies to improve operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
- Provides leadership and effective direction for all operational activities related to production, product quality, food safety and workplace safety whether carried out by the team, contractors, or service companies.
- Ensures operations on the production floor are carried out in accordance with company, local, state and federal regulations, consistently meeting company and USDA standards.
- Monitor yields and efficiencies while maintaining acceptable plant profitability with minimal guidance from the floor superintendent.
- Trains and coaches direct reports and other employees throughout the department with the objective of increasing job knowledge and safety in all production departments; counsels and/or take corrective action as necessary.
- Works with senior department management to identify opportunities for decreasing the variation in processes and products and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems, and procedures, ultimately increasing customer satisfaction.
- Follow the organization's environmental health & safety (EHS) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate risks to the wellbeing of oneself and employees in the workplace. Identify patterns of unsafe behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve these, escalating serious issues as appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management required.
- Animal protein manufacturing knowledge in a harvest facility and understanding of yields, plant efficiencies, and operations procedures.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and USDA and HACCP regulations.
- Ability to build strong, effective working relationships with a diverse population ranging from hourly production workers to senior management.
- Ability to think critically and solve problems in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
- Flexibility in work schedule with long hours and some weekends required.
