JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Production Packer is responsible for keeping production lines moving efficiently and ensuring all product is packaged within Riviana's guidelines, safety procedures, rules and policies. The Production Packer works individually and within a team at different stations throughout the day to create a finished product.

As a Production Packer it is critical to comprehend and understand the importance of; and follow all safety policies, protocols and procedures while working.

The Production Packer works under the direction of the Production Supervisor.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Additional overtime may be required as directed by the Supervisor or Manager.

1st SHIFT SCHEDULE:
40 hours a week, Monday-Friday (plus overtime)

Average start time is 5:00am but does fluctuate 1-2 hours

Typical shifts are 10 hours. It can increase to 12 hours & on occasion slow to 8 hours.

Must be flexible with start and end work times & available to work Saturdays when required.

Time off requests are considered when the schedule is created.

2ND SHIFT (SWING) SCHEDULE:
40 hours a week, Monday-Friday (plus overtime)

Start times can be anywhere from 1:30pm-3:30pm

Typical shifts are 10 hours. It can increase to 12 hours & on occasion slow to 8 hours.

Must be flexible with start and end work times & available to work Saturdays when required.

Time off requests are considered when the schedule is created.

Travel
There is no travel for this position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform high quality work with little to no errors
• Be conscious and aware of your work and work surroundings
• Assist in setup of line equipment
• Feed and monitor flow of product into processing machinery
• Tape or fold cartons, chipboards or packaging related materials or items
• Assemble assortment packs or repacks
• Stack finished products on pallets
• Wash and dry packaging containers and utensils
• Rework product as needed
• Handle inventory quickly with care
• Handle inventory quickly with a high level of accuracy, care and attention to detail
• Work well independently and within a team to complete projects and accomplish the goals of the department and Riviana
• Work at different stations as production requires
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and equipment
• Perform visual and physical product inspections
• Isolate product that does not meet Riviana standards or may cause a food safety hazard
• Interact with plant workers in a manner which fosters positivity, good teamwork and cooperation and ensures an efficient and productive operation
• Follow all regulated food and safety programs, policies and procedures
• Perform all work in accordance with Riviana standards, policies and established safety procedures
• Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices
• Follow Riviana Safety and Accident Prevention Rules & help remind other co-workers of Safety Rules (when needed)
• Follow all safety requirements including OSHA
• Assist in warehouse or lab when needed
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
For a candidate to fill the role above, we have determined the minimum requirements of education, language skills, mathematical skills, reasoning ability, physical demands and skills and work environment.

• Be at least 18 years old
• Have a High School diploma or other equivalent experience or education
• Have no wheat or gluten allergies or sensitivities
• Speak, read and write English
• Speak, read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small group situations.
• Perform basic math
• Minimum mathematic skills: ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide.
• Intermediate reasoning skills
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with a problem involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Eye for details, works thoroughly, tends to catch mistakes or notice what others missed
• Grounded, reliable and follows-through
• Effective interpersonal skills and follows instructions well
• Flexible to schedule changes, shift rotations, working Saturdays and overtime, as required
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment
• Able to adapt quickly and shift priorities
• Pass drug, visual, audio, physical tests and background check

• Walking - over 1/3rd of shift
• Sitting - under 1/3rd of shift
• Using arms, hands and fingers to reach, handle and feel - over 2/3rd of shift
• Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling - under 1/3rd of shift
• Talking and hearing - over 2/3rd of shift
• Lifting from 6 to 24 pounds - over 2/3rd of shift
• Working in high places - under 1/3rd of shift
• Working near moving mechanical parts and airborne particles (dust) - over 2/3rd of shift
• Risk of electrical shock – under 1/3rd of shift
• Working indoors in moderate to loud noise and in fluctuating temperatures
• Working around moving forklifts
• Working around known allergens (gluten and wheat)
