Production Supervisor Job description Background The Production supervisor oversees the production activities for the assigned shift on the production lines or department and each employee’s performance. The supervisor leads the training of employees, focuses on the completion of the production plan scheduled for each shift and day, ensures the control of the materials inventory, movement, and usage on a shift basis, generates all shift and daily production reports and reviews regularly the quality of all manufactured goods. The production supervisor champions the practice of safe work habits and safe work conditions and is the leader to resolve any issue that arises during the shift, either directly or by locating the resources to resolve them. Responsibilities  Organize and direct all production workers on each line and shift, to ensure a complete and safe execution of the production schedule, ensuring the department meets all production orders scheduled for the shift and day.  Review the goals for production set by the Production Manager, per line and per shift/day and coordinate the resources (people, materials, maintenance) to meet those goals.  Check hourly the production output and rates and implement regular and visible reports of progress during the shift.  Maintain a tally of any waste generated its causes and proposes solutions to improve the control of waste.  Verify before any shift start and changeover that all material needed is on site.  Review regularly during the shift all quality reports and lead the production team to resolve any issue quickly.  Ensure accurate shift reporting of production and quality data.  Enforce that all work is done following safe work practices and following company policies and directives.  Work with management and maintenance crew to correct any unsafe conditions in the production area.  Ensure the proper operation of all machinery and report immediately any problem.  Participate in the hiring of the production workers.  Responsible for the training of the production workers.  Accurate control of schedule and worked hours for all personnel, temps and Full Time.  Oversees and coach all production workers.  Timely communication with other departments and managers regarding production scheduling, problems, maintenance and safety concerns, personnel performance, materials control and deliveries, and any other situation that can affect the proper functioning of the production site. Job Type:  Full-time Schedule:  Expected to be 30 minutes before start of shift, stay to close after shift.  Monday to Friday  6:00 am - 2:30pm 1st shift  2:00 pm – 10:30 pm 2 nd shift  10:00 pm – 6:30 am 3 rd shift  Weekend availability is important Education:  High School diploma  A degree in a related technical would be an advantage.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Experience:  Minimum 3 years as manufacturing production supervisor.  Warehouse supervisory experience would be considered, as long as it is in a manufacturing facility. License/Certification:  None is required for this position Physical Demands:  While performing duties of the job, the employee is constantly moving around the plant area, standing, walking, sitting, using computers, writing reports, counting, talking to employees.  This position requires attention to multiple situations simultaneously, with a variety of inputs (conversations, reading, checking quality, production, machinery performance)  Occasionally, it may be required to bend and twist to reach fallen product or packaging.  Employee may be required to safely handle cleaning chemicals  Employee may be required to move or lift objects up to 50 lbs.  Employee will be required to always wear appropriate PPE: closed steel-toe footwear, hairnet and beard net (if applicable).  While most of the job is done indoors, the supervisor might be required to oversees and direct some work and employees outdoors.
