Position Summary

The Professional Tutor supports students to meet their academic goals and assist other college personnel in developing, organizing, and sustaining tutoring initiatives.

Salary: Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees
Local Salary "L" Schedule - Part-Time
Hourly Wage is as follows:

  • Associate's degree or minimum of (48) credit hours or more - $15.91 per hour
  • Bachelor's or higher-level professional degree - $21.22 per hour
Work Hours: Maximum of (19) hours per week.

Funding Source: Title III

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist instructors with checking students' assignments and submitting feedback on students' performance
  • Coordinate with Student Success Specialist for student follow-up midterm and early alert
  • Make and return phone calls and emails to previous and current students to answer questions, increase engagement, discuss progress in courses and address other student concerns
  • Conduct virtual and live tutoring sessions with the students individually or as a group
  • Create study material for student use as directed by supervisor
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Attend class lectures as directed by supervisor
  • Find common time availability to accommodate the needs of the student
  • Coordinate with Student Success Specialist to track students to assist with retention and persistence
  • Provide support, encouragement, and information to students in their departments
  • Assist instructors/chair with lab work and research
  • Commit to the role of a tutor for the entire academic semester
  • Demonstrate computer literacy as required by position
  • Participate in classroom activities and assist the teacher as necessary
  • Track student tutoring for project evaluations and annual reports
  • Submit reports to supervisor as requested
  • Create a database for the student contact with student needs (Dropout Detective)
  • Host virtual and live workshops for learning and academic skills each semester
  • Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts
  • Perform other work-related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor, Dean of Students, and/or the President

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of Associate's degree or completion of a two-year program from a regionally accredited institution
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from a variety of educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
  • Must meet all employability requirements of the college

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution

Background Check Requirement
In accordance with Alabama Community College System Policy and guidelines, the applicant chosen for employment will be required to sign a consent form and agree to a non-refundable fee of $17.40 for a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon the receipt of a clearance notification from the criminal background check.
