The WVU Extension Service is currently accepting applications for a Program Assistant - Extension (Wood County).
About the Opportunity
This position is a part-time, benefits eligible 30-hour-a-week position which works collaboratively as a member of the WVU Wood Extension Service office, working in all program areas: 4-H Youth, Families & Health and Agriculture and Natural Resources Programming. Occasional night and weekend work may be required. Position is contingent upon available county funding.

What you'll do
PROGRAM PLANNING/IMPLEMENTATION
- Coordinates and arranges classes, meetings, workshops, conferences, camps in consultation with County Extension Agents. Reserves and prepares facilities for meetings.
- Delivers county in-school enrichment and 4-H After-school programs (primarily focused on STEM education).
- As instructed by Extension Agent plans, attends, and/or conducts scheduled meetings monthly when needed.
- Assists with planning projects and events as instructed by Extension Agents.
- Attends county fairs/shows, 4-H camps as directed by Extension Agents.
- Assists with email newsletters, social media, website and program mailings.
- Fills 4-H project book orders and maintains project inventory, maintains 4-H club files and records, keeps leaders up to date on current information.
- Assists with conducting periodic evaluations of programs and activities to identify areas of needed improvement.
- Communicates and works collaboratively with county schools and organizations serving youth.
- Assists Extension Agent with CEOS and Families & Health events as instructed by Extension Agents.
- Assists Extension Agent with Agriculture programs as instructed by Extension Agents.
- Assists with screening volunteer applications and maintaining volunteer records.
- Assists with program recruitment and retention.
OFFICE SUPPORT
- Works in the Wood County office assisting with answering phones, greeting constituents, data entry, filing, and other administrative duties as assigned by Extension Agents.
- Helps maintain websites and social media accounts.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 6 months of experience working as a secretary.
- 6 months working with youth and/or adult audiences with community organizations or volunteers.
- Two years of education or training beyond high school in a directly related area.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience working with youth.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience working with community organizations/volunteers.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience working with community based youth development programs.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience working with the public through a variety of youth and family related agencies.
- Ability to complete assigned duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English with strong emphasis on knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (fax, copier, computer).
- Ability to operate desktop personal computer utilizing various word processing software packages and programs such as Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Access.
- Ability to type with speed and proficiency.
- Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously, reprioritizing them as necessary to meet deadlines.
- Ability to learn policy and procedures of WVU, WVU Extension, and the Extension Program Centers.
- Ability to maintain WVU attendance and punctuality standards.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently, in a structured environment, exercising judgment, tact and diplomacy in all interactions.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high volume environment that requires accurate information.
- Ability to work as a team member with supervisor and other staff members.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with persons from various cultures and backgrounds.
- Ability to concentrate and remain efficient in a high traffic environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and deal tactfully with both internal and external constituents.
- Ability to work with policies and procedures as set forth by funding agencies.
- Ability to travel to WVU’s regional campuses and/or withing the multi-state required.
